I am looking into this at the moment. $22 per transcription hour appears to be average.
Anyone know what the rates are?
There is no before/after school care in our town at the moment which means I need to get a little creative in any jobseeking. I found a company that outsources transcription work but they don't say what their pay rates are.

Thanks Jaycee! It's not a lot but considering I can do it from home so save on petrol costs and the hassle of getting to work, it would probably work well for me.
Exactly! I have found a few companies that do it throughout Australia, I can pm them to you if u like?
Me too please Jaycee![]()
Me too please.Looked into this before, but was worried about companies being reputable and how to check them out.
yes please!
Jaycee me too please!![]()
Oooo me too please. Will be looking for something when we move and I have this new babe.
Thanks.
Girls, I have not had any work from these companies, so I can't say whether they're reputable, but really all you have to do is google audio transcription, select pages from Australia and then it's a matter if going to each website and checking out their recruitment page. That's all I did![]()
Thanks Jaycee![]()
Me too please!! DH is again thinking about work from home.
TIA.
A lot of these positions requires special equipment, software etc. So make sure you know how much the initial outlay will be and that you are ok with that.
Rouge is right, you need transcription software, a foot pedal, high quality ear phones, not to mention PC with fast Internet.
It's also not an easy job to do so if you don't have experience and a fast typing speed it's not the job for you.
You need to be able to work with heavy accents, poor audio etc, sometimes it can take up to an hour to transcribe just ten minutes if audio, and that's with a typing speed over 80wpm.
So please think carefully before starting a job in this field, it's not the cushy, easy job everyone thinks it is.
Your spelling and vocabulary also needs to be above average.
I applied for a few jobs like this a few months ago. all required extensive english, grammer and spelling tests with high score rates. I didn't get through, but just so you all realise its not as simpke as typing exactly what you hear.
good luck though!
Yeppers. DH and I both have experience in freelance journalism, copywriting and editing and I was a legal secretary / paralegal for 5 years while studying. That's the angle we're coming from.
Not so much the medico typing, or specialising in anything much other than general dictation or legal work, because I don't know what an acute case of asdkfhoiuaefjhbcuygsdfhjag syndrome is, let alone how to spell it, let alone how to identify someone is saying it with an accent ...
