Are they legal? If they are, does anybody know where I can buy one (two) from?
I'm heading back to work and my folks will be needing to pick up my two older girls one day per week from school while they have DD3, and so will need 3 seats in their car. They have a small car, and there's just no way three "normal" seats will fit.
From the SA govt site:
Booster cushions – As booster cushions do not include a backrest and sides they must only be used in the centre position of the car as they do not provide any side impact protection for children. They are generally not recommended as full boosters provide higher level of safety.
I have one from Kmart as my extra/occasional seat - as above, I only use it in the centre position- between two other seats.. If the centre seat only has a lap belt, you can't use it at all. Kmart also had a folding booster with a back, no tether, they were quite narrow and reasonably priced.
I just bought the Infa folding booster, it was $57 at Kmart (but Big W had them too at $58) The base is super barrow but the seat seems supportive and the seat belt guide work well too. My DS1 really likes it.
Apparently they are illegal, but if a store has any they are allowed to sell what stock they have. itms? I saw this on a child restraint group and they are pretty good with having correct info. but yeah you can buy pretty cheap seats in the usual dept stores
