Infection after D&C??

Hi Girls,

I just have a question that Im not sure about.... I had a D&C 15 days ago at almost 11 weeks pregnant and am still bleeding/ spotting brown blood with the occasional day of red blood, and yesterday for the first time I passed a small brown clot. When I had my follow up appointment with my ob. on Monday he wrote up a prescription for antibiotics and said since I am still bleeding theres a risk of infection. He said most people stop bleeding by 1 week and by 2 weeks theres cause for concern if you havent. He didn't say he wanted to see me again or anything and didn't ACT overly concerned. I still haven't filled the script because Im feeling good(no fever, pain or smelly discharge etc) and don't believe I have an infection. I normally do bleed/spot for a while after something like this (I haven't had a D&C previously but my body is a bit messed up most of the time!) I saw a pharmacist today and he said even without an infection its a good idea to take the antibiotics to prevent one from occurring. So I was all ready to go back in and get the antibiotics but I remembered I have a girls night out tomorrow night where I can finally let my hair down after 3 years of being pregnant, breastfeeding and falling pregnant the day I weaned! So Im really looking forward to it! BUT you shouldn't take ABs when drinking so my question is: Do you think I should definitely take the antibiotics starting today?? Or do you think the bleeding is just my body sorting itself out hormone wise?? or could I start the ABs on Sunday?? Ofcourse If you girls think I should start taking the ABs now I will forget about tomoro night because I wld much rather my health and a future healthy pregnancy then one night drinking! Any experiences of bleeding after a D&C would be appreciated! Oh and did anyone get an infection without showing any signs? Thankyou so much!! xx

I would definitely start the antibiotics on Sunday. Go out and enjoy yourself. Just over 24hours when your feeling physically well is not going to make much of a difference. Although I don't like antibiotics as a rule if there not needed when you want to ttc again I think its a good idea to clean out the uterus/tubes of any tiny little bugs which although may not make you unwell could impact on conception or implantation down the track.

Thanks Mildez! The spotting seems like it has stopped... hopefully its not just a little break! Should I still take the ABs just to clear out any bugs even with no bleeding etc?

Id put the anti's off for a day or two. FWIW I had a D&C at 10 weeks and I bled for 14 days.
