Exposure to human Parvovirus or 5th disease and pregnancy
My dd 4.5 has fifth disease, which is a viral infection caused by parvovirus and produces a high fever and a red face that turns into a Lacey rash on the body. It is a common childhood illness but can cause complications in a small number of pg women if contracted in first half of pg. I am 14 weeks pg and my dad (a dr) has assured me I likely have immunity already. But I am thinking I should prob check for immunity via a blood test. I hate dr google, so can anyone share anymore info or experiences?
I was exposed in my first tri with DD too and had the test to find out I was immune already. I had the test just to know one way or another rather than go crazy worrying when I might not have had to.
Oh thanks for bumping this, I kept meaning to update it
So my first blood tests were negative to IgG and Igm antibodies meaning I hadn't ever been exposed (and therefore had no immunity). My ds then got the virus while we were away and the dr recommend I do repeat bloods because I would likely be infected.
Luckily for me the repeat blood tests again showed negative to antibodies meaning I managed to not contract the virus, despite caring for two sick kids.
My 20 week ultrasound showed a healthy bub and so I have almost forgotten the whole thing.
It was certainly more than a mild illness for my kids, but luckily I escaped!
