Slugs sneaking into our house at night!

Arg I have a mild phobia of slugs so imagine my horror when I began noticing silvery trails on our living room floor in the morning! It looks like they are getting in from our patio under the sliding door- there are no holes or gaps but I know those sneaky things can flatten themselves considerably. How do I keep them out? It began just under where we give DD meals in her high chair and even though I moved the chair and vacuum / mop under it they continue to come in and this morning the network of trails extended further inside than ever! Our house isn't damp, we have tiles in the living room with a seasal rug. If I lay something out to deter them it has to be toddler friendly. Any ideas? It's freaking me out!

Sprinkle some salt where you think they are getting in they won't cross it because it does nasty things to them

I second the salt. Lay it under the door.

    Goodbye yucky slugs!

It worked! Put a stupidly large amount of salt out along the entire length of the sliding doors and windows and no silver trails in the morning! PHEW!

But then hubby said he was worried about the salt corroding the aluminum door frames. But I'm not having slugs in my house!

Yeah don't put the salt on the door frame, it will wreck it. If you scatter it on the ground outside the door, that should do it.

Also, the don't like copper. You could attach a strip of copper just outside the doorway.

We have had so much rain it's no use putting salt outside the door. A bit of water leaks in through the doors if we have heavy rain ... Which happened last night and it must have dissolved the salt as I almost vomited my way through cleaning up 4 dead and sliming slugs that still got in but only as far as the channel where the door slides when we open it... I would have waited for hubby to get home and do it as I really am afraid of slugs but I didn't want DD poking her curious hands in the slime. Yuck!

ETA - copper- really? I'll try it for sure.
