Hi
Just wondering if anyone has been prescribed melotonin to increase egg quality?
What other things have people done or meds to help this?
I have good egg numbers but poor fertilisation rates despite icsi (husband sperm good) so thinking its an egg problem.
I was prescribed melatonin for egg quality. I took it for four or five months last year. Found an old script so am taking it again now. Not sure it helps much but I sleep better.
There is some great research to support the use of Melatonin for egg quality, and I do see it enhance egg quality in many of my patients who are undertaking IVF. Melatonin acts as a powerful antioxidant, and therefore protects and supports egg quality during their maturation phase. And the other bonus, as mentioned above is that it promotes deeper sleep (and often vivid dreams for some!)
I am finding that more and more IVF specialists are prescibing it these days.
I have been prescribed melatonin (along with a myriad of other meds) to help with eg quality. My specialist said it would be best to take it for three months prior to IVF. Unfortunately I am a 'weird one' as the melatonin actually gives me insomnia ...
So after four weeks of very little sleep (averaged 2hours per night) I stopped taking it.
That however is very unusual , for 99% of people it actually improves their sleep.
My specialist described its use by saying that it helps with improving the antioxidant value of the fluid in follicles, which in turn improves egg quality.
