Frontline but it needs to be applied every two weeks PLUS (as advised by our vet), a daily check...... Sounds time consuming and costly right but it sure does beat the $1200 vet bill we had last year for the treatment of our dog after he got a paralysis tick.
I have also used a tick collar that I got at a pet produce store and I think it was about $20. The collar can't get wet, and I can't remember how long it lasted (or the brand sorry), but I thought it was quite good as well.
At the end of the day though, nothing beats the daily check. Hope that helps.
I can't remember the name of what we use - I think its like advantage or something...not that I put it on very often, I really should go and check the dog.
Advantix, but as PPs have said, it needs to be two weekly (monthly for fleas). We stick to monthly, but check our dog daily (it's not hard, he spends his evenings right beside us).
He has had a paralysis tick once in his 12 years, it was scary and expensive - a weekend in the vet clinic and $1K later. I have taken grass ticks off our dog and us from time to time, it isn't hard but you have to be careful. We got caught out with the one that needed the vet - the tick had fallen off but still poisoned him. Luckily I was concerned about his symptoms, even though neither I nor the vet (after shaving) could find the tick. I found a mark on his neck where it must have been.
We've been lucky so far she hasn't had any (coming up to 2) and she's check regularly. I have been meaning to ask what other people use cause I am sure our luck will run out soon and one of the kids had one the other day. Kinda kicked me into gear.
