Lights, then tinsel, then the ornaments and the star second last here. Last are my special ornaments that I don't want the kids to get grabby with.
I had no idea there was a procedure for decorating a Christmas Tree, until today. I always just put the hangy things on then the lights and tinsel and star last (because there's always a fight over who's going to do it). According to my boss, I should be putting the lights and tinsel on first. Who knew?? lol
In what order do you place the decorations on your tree??

Lights, tinsel, decos then star here![]()
Lights, hanging things, tinsel then star last.
Lights. No tinsel, though if I likd it then it goes on now. Big baubles on the bottom, moving up the tree to the smallest ones at the top. Each day in December we hang a star on the tree as our advent countdown, and after Church each Advent Sunday we hang one big star (24 small, 4 big). Last one up is the angel, who appears after Church on Christmas Day. Used to be midnight mass, is now either Christmas Day service or the Crib Service, depending on if we are Home for Christmas.
Tree, star, lights, decorations. I don't have tinsel because I have lights always believed it is one or the other LOL.
Tree, lights, ornaments, star on top is our order, we don't do tinsel, it looks too busy for my liking.
In a past life I've worked as a Christmas tree/ arrangement stylist (no kidding) and in training we were taught lights first (switched on while hanging) then large ornaments then smaller, shiny things nearer the back and matte things nearer the front. No tinsel![]()
We have to put star on early. Too hard to do it when tree is up (tree to tall and wide, star too gravy to risk dropping in tree with glass /ceramic ornaments!!)
So train, bottom 2/3 of tree, foof that up, good top third, secure star, assemble tree. Lights. Lights. More lights! Tinsel (cos I like sparkle during the day too. But not too much tinsel!!). Special decorations to give them prime placement, generic decorations if we want more (didn't bother this year. Dh and I were out if energy. Been a long few weeks!)
We never had tinsel til last year, but I decided to give it a whirl. Will be a maybe-maybe not thing depending on my mood when we decorate each year![]()

Tree, Train (first year had one) Lights, Tinsel, Nice decorations don't want kids to touch up top and then let kids decorate the rest.
Have always done it that way as I test lights. Then hang lights then turn on and look and see if any big gaps no lights. Re arrange if needed.
No star or angel as all ones had always fallen off!
Tree, lights, ornaments ..... I hate tinsel lol!!!
