    Annual Health Check

So - I have booked in my first FULL annual health check - pap smear, skin check...what else should I ask for? I'm thinking cholesterol because there has been issues in my family.

Can I get a blood test to test for lactose intolerance??

I've not had one. I guess the gp would know the standard health tests to do. Blood pressure, cholesterol, general blood test, maybe hormone levels? Let us know how you go!

    Re: Annual Health Check

with a couple of health things going on, i get semi regular checks. basically every six months i get fasting BT's for sugars, cholesterol, liver/kidney functions, normal blood count etc, then blood pressure, check anything in regards to skin (DH has had skin cancer and major surgery for it, so we don't wait for an annual check - if something is hinky, we get it checked). we also discuss with the gp things like mental health as well. pap is around my birthday every second year.

basically talk to your GP about anything that you are bothered about. talk to them about your family history and they will work out what needs to be tested from there

    Re: Annual Health Check

It will probably depend on your general health, family history, and (sorry to say it) your age.

General health indicators include things like blood pressure, weight & height, breast checks (esp if you have dense or lumpy breasts), and possibly cholesterol and/or fasting blood sugar. Other things to ask about include Vitamin D (if you don't spend a lot of time in the sun or have dark skin), or iron and thyroid (if you're struggling with tiredness/lack of energy).

In relation to lactose intolerance, not sure if there's a blood test but it's best to discuss any symptoms you're having with the doc. Tummy issues can be caused by lots of things so I imagine that would be something the dr would want to follow up if it's not getting better over a period of time.
