When did your baby start sleeping through

DD was bottle fed (mostly), combo of EBM & FF. so I was happy/confident to let her go through at night and was sleeping 10-7 at 5 weeks and 7-7 at 7/8 weeks. With DS his 4 weeks and BF his not waking well at night is it too soon to let him sleep for longer stretches? I have been waking him at 10pm to bath feed & then he wakes at 2am, I dropped the 10pm sleep last night as he was awake most if yesterday and felt he needed the rest. Plus he had cluster fed right up till 8.30pm and my boobs had never felt so empty so felt fruitless to wake him at 10pm... Anyway interested to see what others have done. Oh and his gaining weight well now & well hydrated.

Going from your sig, your ds is a month? I honestly think it is WAY too early for you to expect him to sleep through. He is still too little...

But to answer your title question, Spock is 19months and still doesn't sleep through.

DD1 slept through a couple of times around the 8 month mark and then not again until she was almost 3. DD2 slept through from six weeks until around four months and then not again until she was 16 months old. DD1 was only a once per night wake up as she got older, DD2 from four months was 6-8 wake ups every night until the night she just slept through. Both were bf, DD1 with top up FF and DD2 exclusive.

I don't think the OP is expecting him to slee through, more so asking the question whether it is OK for him to do so if he is sleeping through... ie. should she wake him during the night if he is sleeping for long stretches.

I'm not sure on the answer to be honest, if he's four weeks, I'd be inclined not to let him go more than six or so hours between feeds.

I definitely didn't have this problem with either of mine, my "baby" will be 3 in a couple of months and he's never slept through

Good to hear he is doing well!
I was told with my first that I needed to wake him at night - no sleeping more than 6 hours. He generally woke, but if he didn't, I woke him.
With my second I just went with the flow a lot more. He never really slept more than 7 hours. Maybe once or twice at that age, and I would wake because of engorgement. So I'd just express and leave him sleeping.
I think if you are confident that your son is catching up during the day - feeding sufficiently , then I think an occasional long sleep would be ok. You might need to express though or you could be very uncomfortable in the morning.

Thanks everyone & yes Joeve is right by no means am I expecting my little guy to sleep through. His not hard to get up to, I just want to do the right thing by him. And yes, I was thinking just 7 hours (if he wants it), I certainly will not push him into anything as we are doing baby led parenting. I just didn't know if I "could" leave him for longer than 4 hours.

Red gum - good qu! DS2 is 2.5weeks and generally waking after 5-6 hours at night. But he missed a wake up a couple of nights ago, and I slept right through too. Woke after 7hours feeling incredibly sore and full and guilty as anything! Especially as I was already feeling guilty letting him go 5 hours as the midwife said no more than 3hrs as he's under 3kg. I've since reasoned that he feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, is well hydrated and happy, and my supply is fine, so I should stop worrying! I do try to wake him after 6 hours if he's still asleep though.

DS fed every 3 hrs til about 6 weeks, then slept 6 hrs, then 9hrs til about 6 months. Then 12 hours til about 2.5. Now he wakes 2-3 times a night

Re: When did your baby start sleeping through

My MCHN told me that once bub has gained enough weight to be back at his birth weight (as long as that is over 3.5kgs), then it's fine not to wake him for feeds anymore, and to follow his lead.

*Disclaimer: I'm formula feeding, not sure if this applies if you're breastfeeding.

Re: When did your baby start sleeping through

Ds slept through from 8 weeks (ff)
Dd only starting to now at 8months but it's still hit and miss (bf)

But I just go by instinct because there are so many variables eg how much they've eaten that day , how many sleeps , the temperature, illness , how absolutely buggered I am, etc

TFB! yeah.... DS1 is almost 3 and has slept through only a handful of times. DS2 is 7 months and the longest stretch he's given me is 3 hours.

Yes. I am a zombie. lol

    Both about 18 months.

But DD never wanted to co sleep. Even for afternoon naps. She likes her space to sleep.

DS would happily tell his father to sleep in another room if he could sleep with me. Naw.

Haha, mostly. At about 2.30am I realised she hadn't woken yet and started worrying, so I crept into her room. I heard her breathing so figured she was okay and went back to bed.
