    AF and the mini pill

I started the mini pill about 10 days ago. AF is starting today (first one since birth) Is this because I would have ovulated before the pill was taken? And should I expect no more AF while taking the mini pill?

Don't you still get your period on the mini pill anyway? I've never taken the mini pill but assume it's the same as the regular pill and you take the sugar ones for 7 days while you have a 'bleed'.

Hmmmm, the mini pill doesn't have the sugar pills, it's just continuous, so I don't think I am supposed to get AF.....

Re: AF and the mini pill

Ok, i did some research and apparently the mini pill just makes it harder for your body to conceive. It doesn't stop ovulation, therefore you will still get AF. I am barely bleeding though. Was expecting more being my first AF since birth. But my cycles were always crazy and light. Hence the 3 years it took to get pregnant in the first place!

Yeah, the mini pill doesn't prevent conception, it just makes it more difficult by creating a more volatile environment. Many pro-choicers dislike it because an egg can be fertilised, but then cannot implant into the uterus because of thin lining, so it is passed.

Re: AF and the mini pill

I didn't bleed on the minipill and didn't conceive. Even when I forgot to take them for a week (one of the reasons I stopped using it). Other friends had infrequent periods (ie every 3-4 months). Who also used it long-term and didn't conceive.

Re: AF and the mini pill

I have stopped taking the mini pill because of the on/off bleeding. Drove me mad and I reckon the mini pill caused it because I haven't bled once since stopping it.
Can I ask why your on the mini pill? Are you bfing? If not, it's not likely to be a very effective contraceptive so maybe it's worth looking into something else.

Well, I have just stopped bfing actually in preparation of going back to work. So I will be changing pills now anyway!
