I am thinking about getting the mirena, but can't decide. I am definitely not ready for another bub yet (if ever ) Reasoning behind a mirena is that it took us 3 years to conceive dd and I don't want my hormones all buggered up from coming off pill if we decide to ttc again. I have heard that mirena comes out and your ready to go. BUT I also have pcos and have noticed a few symptoms coming back since dd birth and usually the pill will fix this. Does the Mirena work the same way as the pill with pcos?
So I guess I need some advice on what would suit me best And some positive stories with the mirena...
I've got no positives on the Mirena, other then they are really easy to get out (as in DH pulled both of mine out during fun lol). It works for some, not for others. Made me bleed 3 out of 4 weeks of the month. I put it down to, not compatible to my body
A friend of mine has PCOS and has one. She loves hers, has not a period at all once it all settled in.
Age can be a big factor. I am getting one next month, so spoke in depth with a gynea about it. In her experience old, as in 40+ women do much better with them that a 20+ women. Essentially women are still developing till about 25 (well that is what she said).
I have a Mirena and love it. It took 3mths to settle down. I now get no periods at all. I will say that I am now in the 40+ age group and year 4.5yrs of my current Mirena.
A GF of mine has just had one put in for heavy bleeding, it's taking a while to settle and she is having irregular cycles, she has been advised to persist for the full 3mths before giving up.
My OB's recommended only for the fact that I was finished having children.
I had my mirena in after our second child and loved it!! Had no problems getting it inserted - hadn't even realised it was over and done with. I had mine in for 16 - 18 months and apart from the initial spotting for 6-8 weeks I had no periods at all.
I had it removed (just felt like a pap smear) and they told me they were unsure as to when I would become fertile again - it was just a wait and see. A few days after I had it removed I got the heaviest period I'd ever had and it went for 9 days.
BUT on the upside I fall pregnant that cycle and I have PCOS. My other two took 16 months and 9 months to conceive.
I would have happily had it put back in after our 3rd and final bubba was born but DH had the snip instead.
