Who has a Turtle?

I am hoping to get DH a turtle for his birthday next month as we have been talking about getting one for years! The kids will love it too

Have visiting a few pet stores and not keen to spend $600-1000 for a sparkly new set up. Have been looking into 2nd hand.

On advice from the pet store dude am thinking of getting a 3ft tank so Mr Turtle has plenty of room to grow, have come across quite a few 2nd hand set ups with filter, lamp, heater etc for around the $300 mark which I am happy to spend

Just a few questions though...
How much work are they to maintain? Eg keeping the tank clean etc - how often does it have to be cleaned out?
How expensive are they to maintain - food cost etc?
What else do I need to know?

I have two happy little turtles who live together in a 6ft tank..

We got our setup second hand aswell and spent around $300-$350 all up!

Food is cheap, they are low maintenance - tank would need to be cleaned once a fortnight but this takes about 30mins.

I love my little guys, they have such an awesome personality!

I can't comment on cost to purchase or the cost of a license because my friend gave me these turtles as he moved overseas and I don't have a license (shhh!!)
