I'm looking for replies from people who have a booster seat for an older child or who have looked into them.
We have bought a new car and transferring car seats from my mazda to the new 4wd is a pita (a third world problem, I know).
DS is 6, but small. He is currently in a safe and sound maxi rider. I don't really want to buy another one of these (although I am very happy with it) because it won't last until he's 10 (or whatever the age will be by then!). And they offer features that I don't need like the harness, ITMS.
It seems there are no isofix ones on the market as they are not legal for boosters yet. It seems with a booster you don't need a tether strap, but given a choice I think I would use one.
Do you have a booster seat? What should I know or look out for? Space is not really an issue, I've given up on having a third child!!
i think there are only 3 or 4 boosters on the market that don't have a tether strap, most of them do.
i had to go for a slimline one to fit, and i have found the booster the most difficult to work around because the buckle side is next to another no matter where in the car it is positioned. So, if you want booster next to another seat or booster, you want to check accessibility to the buckle.
i have a hi liner in one car and infa secure vario in the other. i prefer the Vario, but my dd is only 4 so i'm not sure which will be better as she grows.
We have baby love ezy combo - got it because it rated better than others in safety aspects and cost similar or a little less (compared to sns from memory). Is usable from moving to forward facing through to seven or eight (possibly longer if you have a smaller child). We are very happy with it.
We have one from Aldi, but I think it is a rebadge of a First Years Ultra Adjustable Folding Booster (Babies R Us has them) It is a slim line with a tether and my DS1 (almost 5) finds it really comfy.
Have just moved dd into a Hipod Boston. Highest safety rating on that website that does the ratings ( ), has a tether strap (we call it an anchor point, think its the same thing yes?) but it needs an H harness initially. I'm not sure when you can remove the h harness, I think my niece (6yo) is not using the H harness any more.
The website said the folding one was just for occasional use. Whilst it would only usually be weekend trips to bunnings, it would sometimes be longer trips too, and it freaked me and DH out a bit when it said just occasional!
I like the looked of the infasecure vario because of where the seatbelt goes (in the picture in the ad) but I've never seen one in real life.
In my car the lap/sash belt with the SnS does not work for DS. It is all wrong and very uncomfortable for him. So while I like the SnS with the normal harness, he won't fit it much longer and because of where my car seats and seat belts are situated the SnS is not going to work forever.
BG The baby love might not be made anymore? It isn't coming up when I google.
OP, I call it an anchor, but I had the website with the regulations up and it called it a tether strap, so I thought maybe that was the 'new' thing to call it.
Ds has a hipod. Its made with places for the seat belt to tuck into so its not too high on his neck or tummy. Also has the tether/anchor.
I can't remember what age it goes to though. He's 6 & not a tiny 6. I don't think there'd much point buying another one now... hopefully I won't have too.
Dd has a 6m-8y. If I'm lucky I'll stretch it out til she's 10. Wish they'd started making them earlier.
Lenny, we also have the same Baby Love seat as BG, I recently saw them advertised in both Toys R Us and Baby Bunting. they are still made. We got it from Harvey Norman Big Buys (we have three - our two cars + Nans), we plan to get one for DD soon too, she fits in DSs with ease (she's 20m). DS still has the 5pt harness as he is tiny, but will likely move to the lap sash within the year
My friend bought the Infa Secure Vario Trend today from Toys R Us for just $89.99 - on sale if you're a VIP. She wanted a narrow fit booster for her almost 5 year old and is thrilled with her find. It has an excellent CREP rating apparently.
Nothing like a cuddle from DD after a hard day's work!

Re: Do you have a booster seat (in the car)
We have the Infa Secure Vario. DD1 is really small for her age (6) so when we were looking at boosters only the vario fit. She's had it for 2 years now and it has grown with her. The headrest is adjustable.
We are very happy with it
It was the highest in CREP rating when we looked into booster seats
