At what point would you take a bigger kid for a check up? DD2 started 11pm Monday night. She slept most of Tuesday & slept ok Tuesday night. Yesterday, while she still didn't look ok, she started eating a little & didn't throw up.
Last night she was back at it again. No diarrhea, but seems like she has a lot of pain in the belly. She moans & groans for a good hour or so at a time. Sometimes she's sick, sometimes she isn't. I've never had more than 12-24 hours in the house when it comes to vomiting. Except when she was little & had rota virus.
The local (1 day a week) doctor is away too. Its 65kms away to the hospital, with no doctor, if needed til after Easter. Not sure what they'd do with no doc on. I won't be travelling 2 hours away to the next hospital...
Should I have her checked over? I'm heading up there today anyway for a few bits & pieces before Easter. Or should I just try keeping her fluids up & wait it out. Surely it'll be over soon. No one else in the house has it yet, which seems odd. She has stayed pretty much confined to her room though.
Because you're going anyway, I'd take her to get checked out. They could give her something to stop the vomiting at least. If it was me, knowing Easter is on us and everything is closed, I'd get her checked out.
I might. There's no doctor, so I'm not sure there's a lot they can do. I was actually thinking of trying to leave her with someone. I'm not sure she'd be able to handle the trip up there & back.. But we'll give it a go.
I tried Phenergan last night, as anti nausea, just so she could get some sleep. I think it helped a little, but not a lot. I didn't give her the full dose though, because I'm wary of Phenergan. It did helped her sleep! The next vomit was in her bed :/ So I think I'll avoid doing that again.
Hi clover, having this exact trouble with DD who is 6.. We were in emergency on Tuesday night. She was having such bad stomach pain and was not able to keep any food down.. They did an ultrasound, urine test, blood test, physical exam, X-ray etc and found that she was very constipated..
this is apparently quite common in kids of this age because they get distracted or hold off on going to the toilet because they are doing something more interesting, which will cause their poos to become hard and compact, so it hurts to poo, and then they hold on to their poos because it's hurts and it's a revolving cycle until it get to the point where they are having bad tummy pains and start to vomit because their body is refusing to hold any more food... DD was at a friends house all day Saturday and we went out on the boat on Sunday and the pain started Sunday evening and got progressively worse Monday and Tuesday to the point where we took her to the hospital..
Doctors suggested we encourage her to sip on water or hydralyte/watered down powerade, and not to try and make her eat, if she wants food then make sure it is something as bland as possible..
To help clear constipation you can try Coloxyl, it's for infants and will not harm in any way even if they do not have constipation, this is just over the counter medication.. It has been working for us.
If your childs pain isn't localized their appendix area and they aren't running a fever then it could just be the same thing!
Also if it is appendicitis they will not want to more and will try to stay as immobile as possible.. If it's constipation they may be squirmy because they are looking for a comfy position..
I wouldn't give her anything that may act as a seditave if she is vomiting.
It's probably not such a big deal in an older kid as a you g one, cause she won't dehydrate as easily.
Maybe just give her some Gatorade or some such.
I know adult who spend a week with gastro and so long as they can drink. They are ok.
Do you have any zofran wafers ?
Emmalee, I have a DS with chronic constipation. I know what it's like, not fun. Been dealing with it for over 12 months now
I'm pretty sure its just a tummy bug. Don't think we have Zofran available here, but a chemist has just opened up in the last few weeks. I can go see what they have available. But with no gp, no scripts. I know I can get hydralyte though.
Oh it's awful.. We are on our way back to the hospital as we speak because there has been no poo for nearly 2 days, despite laxatives & suppositories.. But still having belly pains/vomitting/no appetite.. Might have to get the doctors for give her an enema.. My poor girl
I would also see what the pharmacist recommends.. They do have a university degree so do have a good understanding! He could have a few tricks up his sleeve we tried the hydralyte and she was able to keep that down...
Hopefully your bub gets better soon. It's so awful seeing them sick and not being able to help!
