    Hands

So I have this issue with my hands. More so one particular hand.

For a while now the thumb on my hand has been painful to bend. It doesn't start out that way in the morning but by the end of the day movement is beginning to hurt and to touch the joint doesn't tickle.

Its worse if I've done something hands on during the day - at work i sort through a lot of paper so lots of page flicking, at home things like crochet will set it off, its not even my texting thumb lol. Its more an uncomfortable pain rather than a I need pain killers type if that makes sense.

The other thing is for the past few months - longer than my sore thumb - I've been waking at night with pins and needles in both arms, I thought it was the way it was sleeping but changing positions hasn't helped.

Obviously I'm going to go to the doctor, but I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before. I worry the dr will tell me I'm an idiot and there is nothing wrong.

Pins and needles could be something in your neck, maybe change pillows? I dont know much else tho...

    Re: Hands

I got carpel tunnel last pregnancy and it was like that. Started with waking with pins and needles in both arms, then sore hands.

I was going to suggest Carpal Tunnel too. Definitely have it checked out, you may need to splint your hand at night.

Could also be RSI (repetative strain injury) especially if you're doing a lot of paper flicking, typing etc.

Thanks guys, I guess I better go do something about it now since it sounds like its actually something and I won't be fobbed off for being silly. I hadn't even thought of some of those things!

The GP is investing the possibility of carpal tunnel, blood test to rule out some things and x-ray tomorrow. Then the waiting game to see if things progress.

The blood test may be to test your thyroid, as carpal tunnel can be a symptom of under-active thyroid. I used to and sometimes still get the pins and needles you are talking about - and I have under-active thyroid caused by Hashimotos, I had the nerve conduction test to check for carpal tunnel but it came back negative - my mum had Carpal tunnel though and had an operation to widen the tunnel - which has helped.
