Can dissolvable stiches not dissolve? TMI warning!

7 weeks post lap procedure and the scar along my pubic hair line that's about 5cm long has been problematic. It's been sore off and on and had a small oozy hole at one end.
I showed the doctor yesterday at my post op appointment and he used a silver nitrate stick to cauterize it, but he didn't think it was concerning at all. Last night, I guess he opened it up a bit more and there was (sorry I warned you) lots of pussy stuff. This morning more again.

This afternoon I was having a poke at it and used a torch to have a good look - I could see something so I got some tweezers and pulled. I was a knot of stitches and a length of thread attached 3.5cm long! And it came all the way from the other end of the scar.

Is it normal for dissolvable stitches to remain intact? No wonder the wound hasn't been healing well. I imagine it will now.

My dissolvable stitches never dissolve. I remove them myself a couple of weeks later.

I still (8 and 11 years later) have occasional pus like sores on my belly which I pick and have a stitch in them. From my two c/s

I think it depends on your body.

Some people just don't react the "expected" way with these things. Like Div, I have had experience with dissolvable stitches not dissolving - my body kind of encapsulates them like an allergic reaction or infection and isolates them - and then I either need to be cut open again to get them out, or they come out as a result of infection. But it a nit every time, so there must be different types... My mum texts similarly. Most other people I have spoken to first hand reckon I'm odd because they've nit had a drama, and thankfully I haven't had any real issues since c/s - but there were other surgeries where I just didn't dissolve them properly - especially at the knot sites (endodontic surgery was horrific for it!)

Hopefully now that the stitch is gone you'll heal more effectively

I've had that happen too. Once after lap surgery - one incision got all swollen and pussy like a pimple and when it popped I could see the stitch so I pulled it out and it healed fine after that, but left a big scar. Second time was after having DD1 and I tore. again got a pussy pimple like lump - squeezed it and the stitch came out enough to pull out. They were only ever short though, not like what you pulled out. I think for some people it's just normal. If it stays infected then see your Dr for some abx.
