    Question infants friend

well i have bought some infants friend. went to get infacol but the pharmacist wouldnt sell it to me as ashley was only 3 weeks and not 1 month.

anyhow. i am wondering if anyone else has used it and when you think is the best time to give it - as the bottle says before after or during if needed... so i dont find that very helpful lol.

Also how quickly does it work for your babies?
How many times a day do you give it?
    Any side effects seen?

thanks girls. fingers crossed the poor lil' darling will have better nights after her feeds...

I haven't used Infants Friend but one of the girls from Mother's Group (actually two of them) have and one said it worked within about 2 hours (her baby was constipated). I imagine that like all things ingested, the time it takes to work is going to depend a lot on your babies metabolism and digestive system.
If you think you might have trouble getting bubs to take it, try giving it before a feed because then the feed will wash it down (so to speak) and also get rid of the taste for them.

Does the chemists one have a name - or can you tell me the ingredients in it?

Well i gave it too her and she is stone cold asleep now! i hope it isnt a side effect because she has never slept this soundly. i mean i can pass her to DH and move her arms under the blanket etc and she doesnt even move! she is still breathing though! lol

Let hope it is just because she is more comfortable and no other reason!

I know it saids it can cause diarrhoea but honestly DD has no problem with poos! she has lots of them all day and night! lol

We tried infants friend last week cause DS was always unsettled in the evenings. We gave it to him before his 6:30pm feed and he also was stone cold asleep, absolutely dead to the world and he had never slept more than about 20mins or so between 7 and 10. I am a paed and I know its harmless stuff but it still freaked me out that he was so out of it. I thought I'd sedated him and ended up waking him up myself just to make sure he would! Anyway he did and he was fine. I saw DS paed a few days later and he also said it's harmless and not to worry about using it. We haven't used it since but I would if necessary. He has started sleeping better in the evening on his own anyway.

use it like the bottle says to .. after a feed is better but not right away .. if your having probs see a doctor first your baby is young so its common to get a bit of pain/restlessness after a feed .. it dhould sort it self out but , in saying that , i have given IF since he was one month old , at first it had an affect but now he just likes the taste of it

    It seems to be helping!

    Hi there,

My baby girl is 5 weeks old and has experienced wind pains/colic for the last couple of weeks. Well I tries Infants friend and after a couple of days it seems to have settled her heaps! I give her 10 drops before each feed and it seems to help bring her burps up. Just a question, is it ok to give it at every feed or is this too much?

first bub. i asked the chemist and he said it is fine. but ithink the website says 6th hourly?. ashley mostly has the worst at night cause i am not carrying her upright for an hour after each feed. so we give it once at night and again thru the early morning.
She seems to have really big burps and vomit though (and it isnt straight after i give it - we give it post feed or during).

Lestypuss - it is a mixture to reduce wind and colic in babies.

I have used Infants Friend since Nic was about 3 weeks old. He had terrible colic and reflux. I found infants friend to work really well, but I have found the Pharmacy mix (asmentioned in Caro's post - the Colic Mixture) to be sooo much better. Straight after a feed, I give it to him and he brings up the wind almost straight away. It is really gentle too and he doesn't spew as much because his wind comes up so gently.

Hi am a fan of infants friend too. Helps Matthew heaps whenever he has a tummy ache from wind. He goes straight to slepp on it too (maybe a blessing in disguise ) My sister also uses it on her little boy and loves it to. Matthew sucks it straight out of the dropper.
