Have any of you ladies used the Dunstan Baby Language? I'm thinking about purchasing it... But just wondered what the feedback was like from rl people.
I think a few of us discussed it when it first came out, I'll search for it
I didn't purchase it but watched the program on TV. I have to say Jovie used the language to a T. But when you have 3 hours of the cry that means tummy & you can do nothing about it, it doesn't seem that useful LOL... BUT it was good for me mentally to be able to say she's crying because.... and be confident with that.
That is the number 1 thing about it I reckon, that it gives mother's confidence in knowing what their baby is crying for.
I thought it would be not only a great confidence booster for me (if it actually works) but also for Daniel. I really don't want to be one of those mum/wives that stands over the shoulder almost having a break down because his not doing it right! I want Daniel to do it his way and if he needs help, i'm sure he'll ask. If he can learn the baby talk well i figure that has to give him some sort of confidence and contentment with his role having an understanding of his daughter.
Ive watched it too and one of the important things with it is to catch the very first cry - once they are into * Im beside myself with tiredness/hunger/ grumpiness* the cries are the same - so you have to pick up on the very first part of the cry to get the cue! Good luck - I have girls at mothers group who swear by it and its been a lifeline for them!
I'm reviving an old thread here, but I have watched all the crutial bits of the dvd (ran out of time to watch all of it... some time this week!), and have already heard my DS make all of the words. Just 30mins ago, DH was trying to console some crying & I had a listen... in amongst all the cries was little 'Heh' noises - which means I'm uncomfortable (cold, hot, wet, etc), so one quick peek into the nappy & our answer was there! He took a little soothing afterwards because he'd got so worked up over it. But as soon as he was quiet, I swaddled him & he's been asleep since.
It's only my first day using it, but already I have been able to feed, burp & change him based on what he's telling me. I can't believe I actually understand what my 6 day old baby is saying. It's such a relief!
I cant recommend this enough, obviously it wont work for everyone but if worked so well for us and made life a lot easier we will be using it again with this second bub and hopefully it works as well. Apparently if you dont pick up the sounds in the first few weeks they will stop making them.
We didnt get the dvd either I just saw it on Oprah and wrote it down, I think if you youtube it its on there.
Yeah we used it too and found it helpful. Yes mothers do get to learn eventually what their babies cries mean but its all about gaining the confidence to work out how to get to that point. That's what i found anyway!!! It makes sense to me that a physical problem will cause a physical reaction. I'm quite interested in baby signing too. I kind of dismissed it when I was pg with DD but found she naturally made some signs, so will be following it up if we have another bub.
