    Question Lunch \ Food Question..

Just wondering when its ok to give bread/toast or sandwich's?
Also, what does your little one have for lunch?
Emily has vege's or custard and fruit, just looking for other ideas - dont want to bore her!!

I think whenever you feel your little one is ready for toast fingers or sandwhiches is a good time to introduce them.
I introduced toast fingers about 6 and a half months. Child care introduced bread at the same time (little quaters with lunch). We haven't progressed to sandwhiches yet but child care said they will start next week if I'm happy. I was going to start today but she has gastro...

I give my DD various things for lunch. I mix the veggies around so she gets different combo's (she mostly has veggies for lunch). Sometimes she will also have fruit, or fruit and yoghurt. If I'm really lazy - a mashed up bannana. At child care she gets veggies followed by anpiece of bread.

I thought that wheat was a later introduction than 6 months?? Like 8 plus?? Correct me if I'm wrong, it was just something I thought I heard.

MG - Thanks. I hope your DD gets better soon, its not fair when little one gets sick
Ozziehoffy - I wasnt sure either, thats why i asked, its so hard to know and especially that they change things, when i had DD it was food at 3-4 mths etc. I have an appointment with the health nurse on tusday so i'll ask her, she gave me a list from the royal childrens hossy on what foods to give when and goes up until 1 1/2 - 2 years old but it doesnt say a thing abut bread!

It is hard huh... it was the same with DS#1... he's 14 now. I actually don't remember wondering about when to give him things though... I think I just gave him different things and I know I didn't even think twice about allergy foods. I don't think that was even mentioned! I do wonder now if we overdo it and are creating allergies if that makes sense?

The thing that could be of concern is introducing wheat into the diet too soon which is why bread is introduced a bit later. Zander's first taste of toast was while we were on holidays in Melbourne & he swiped mine!! In was mid November, so he would have been around 8 months old. We waited probably another month or so before he had it regularly.

ETA: Check out this sticky - Starting Solids / Homemade Baby Food - BellyBelly Forums ~ Pregnancy, Birth & Baby - for the stages, it actually says around 10 months for wheat.

My bubs has just started solids the past week & I don't know for sure how accurate things are but I've been going by the book that's been my saviour since bubs was born. Just checked & it lists what foods to give at certain months & at the bottom it's noted not to give bread until 10 months. It also says try wheat based cereal first & watch for a reaction.

My DS loved ricotta with mashed avocado in it at that age. Just another lunch time suggestion.

Ozziehoffy - I know exactly what you mean! I did the same with DD#1, i wasnt told about allergys either and never gave it a thought to be honest. How things change! and probley will again. And yep, creating allergys - i hear you

Looks like 10 moths is the way, although we have NO food allergys in either family (if this makes a difference?) we'll wait and see.

Thanks for your help and ideas!
