ooh the firt to post in the new thread! I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day especially those of you celebrating for the first time (i think thats all of you except me and Willow) I hope you all got spoilt I did which was a lovely surprise as DH doesnt normally do much for me. I actually got a lovely gold necklace with a "mum" locket that holds 2 photos so i can put a photo of both girls. We also went out for breakfast with the inlaws and then had tea at my mums. I am taking Molly to get her 6 month injections today so i'm not looking forward to that- i'm hoping she will be fine and not ratty afterwards. Still no teeth or rolling or anything too exciting just the same of loveable lump of baby Still trying with solids daily just rice cereal and apple but Molly still wont have a bar of it so i guess she isnt ready. I was going to do personals as its been a while since i did but its too hard with the start of a new thread so get posting girls so i can soon.

I had planned on being first but the web was down, so Hoody beat me to it! Just a quickie to say hi and happy mothers day, and to say that the Christening went so well, the weather was great and Caden was such a well behaved bub.

He has almost cut his top left tooth, it is half-cut and the other side will work its way out soon no down. They are sooo white and stretched-looking so am crossing fingers it will be over soon (please please).

Howdy ladies,

Hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day... it was sooooo nice just spending it with my little girl. I got a lovely surprise pressie and card too (very surprised as my DH has always said it's just commercialised rubbish blah blah blah).

Well, I don't have too much more to report from last time... Brooke has been her usual happy (most of the time) self - still no teeth to report. She can sit up a little better now - although gets the wobbles pretty quick and falls in whatever direction she is looking. We have been spending more time outside with the lovely weather (and now the sun doesn't have the bite to it). Brooke loves watching the birds and dogs and cars. Still mainly just rolling over (she loves rolling from back to tummy and loves showing off on her tummy - doesn't so much roll the other way). Also loves her high chair - its great for when I'm making tea! Haven't started on solids but intending to in the next couple of weeks.

Hoody... how'd you go with ideas for working part-time? I'm in recruitment - there are so many different opportunities out there at the moment... it really comes down to what you want to do. Employers are becoming more and more flexible with working arrangements to attract staff and with your background in retail management (no doubt exceptional communication and interpersonal skills!) it could lead you to so many other areas. If you're still not sure what you want to do, there are some great part-time job sites around these days (as well as Seek) so worth just having a browse to get ideas.

Dragonbub... glad the Christening went well! You've obviously got a wonderful little boy! Hope the teeth come thru soon!

Hi Belinda- Still no idea with work though it looks like i might have a 2 day/ week position for 4 months where my friend works doing payroll and book keeping. Nothing exciting but like i said only for 4 months so might be good to get a little bit of exp and to see if i really do want to work. I dont have to financially (although extra money is always handy) i just think it would do me good. Been home all day with 2 kids can be really draining. Glad to hear you got spoilt for mothers day my DH thinks the same and DD1 is 2 and this is the 1st yr i've been spoilt Its always nicer when its unexpected.

DB- So glad the christening went well. i really need to get my @ss into gear and get Molly done. Its just life is so busy at times etc that i really cant be bothered with the hassle DD1's was a huge event so we will have to match it iykwim.

Well Molly had her needles and my brave lil darling didnt even cry. She was fine all afternoon too so i guess it went as smoothly as it was possible. DD1 on the other hand cried for her as she had a BT the week b4 and thought the needle was for her DD1 went to daycare today so it was just Molly and i and TBH i cant even remember what i did when DD1 was that young honestly it was soooooo easy. So to all you girls on your 1st enjoy every minute of it when/if you have no2 it wont be as laid back. I mean she was good as gold fed and slept like a champ and i felt really lost. Normally on my day off i run errands and food shop and stuff but today i just stayed home and i actually managed to clean the house in record time, cook a roast and then i was bored. Not that i'm complaining it just made me realise how much harder it is having two. I did miss DD1 though today the house was a little too quiet. Are any of you thinking about no 2? I am already starting to feel clucky again Although DH is adament that 2 is enough so i guess for now thats our limit. I started trying for Molly just b4 DD1 turned one. Hey Hoody - glad to hear about the job. It is great getting out into the workforce and being a "professional" rather than "mum". I have had some casual work and am surprised at the lack of clean non-spewy clothes that I have in my wardrobe. Plus am in a funny size state at the moment, pregnancy clothes obviously too large, but my pre-preg clothes are too big now as well, so I have to buy some more. I just can't be bothered! Pre baby I would shop for myself with joy and gay abandon, however now I end up in the baby section buying Caden something instead

As for #2 I was never a clucky person and although I longed for my own baby, I never got clucky over others IYKWIM? But when I look at him and sometimes talk about his younger brother/sister, I really long for my family. We will only have 2 (at least unless DH decides he wants more because I would like 3) so we are going to start trying when Caden is about 3. For me I feel this gives him a good amount of time and hopefully he will be toilet trained (don't know how I could be pregnant and changing nappies *blurg*) and fairly independent. I know there are advantages to just "getting it over and done with" but I don't know how I would go with 2 really littlies. Plus I am looking forward to going back to work part time in October and working on my career a bit. I love my job and am the main breadwinner, so DH might end up a SAHD in the future, or at least a part time SAHD while I work.

Quick question - did anyone "try" for a particular gender? Did it work? What did you do? Would you try for the next one?
(We didn't try with Caden, just thought we would take pot luck and am not sure about next one)

As for work, is anyone going back? My mothers group is full of professional women, with only 2 SAHMs. I would love to be a SAHM but even now I have picked up some casual work and am studying, so I don't think I could pull it off. It requires so much dedication and committment. Don't get me wrong, I love Caden to bits, but I also love my job and that is what brings the money in. I know I don't have to justify my decision here, but I feel I need to justify it to myself, ya know? It is nice to hear other women returning to work and still being great mums heh heh (have had a few negative comments from random strangers and friends of friends re going back to work )

Belinda - great too about the sitting up! Caden has been doing that for a while now, and some days he will stay up for over 5 minutes, and other days he just topples right over. I think sometimes he just can't be bothered LOL.

STILL no teeth! They are cutting, but I can't feel them yet. Things have settled down a bit tho and he isn't up during the night anymore, just a quick feed at around 5 in morning which I could probably skip if I didn't get up to him anyway - I think he would just chat and play for a bit before going back to sleep.

Hoody - it is funny what you said about being bored. Caden seems to have just changed and is now having about 3 hours awake time between sleeps. This has left me wondering what to do with him, and often resort to going shopping, running errands, visiting a friend, etc just to use up the time. Then when he is asleep I miss him and can't wait for him to get up and play! Oh the contradictions!! It feels like as soon as I have a routine, he changes and I am fluffing about not knowing what to do...

Well, have rabbited on enough and will get some stuff done before the lil fella wakes up.

Hoody... good on you with the two days/week - as you say, it's a good start and the experience certainly won't hurt! I'm really enjoying my time with my little girl and finding that I can balance work without any probs (doing about 4 hours/day at home mainly at night and then in the office for 1/2 days on Mon's and Thu's - would probably be a lot different if Brooke wasn't sleeping thru the night though!). I'm sure if we had a 2nd it wouldn't be quite so easy either! Haven't started thinking about it yet - maybe when Brooke is 1 we'll start trying?? Not sure.

Dragonbub... It's funny, before I had Brooke, I worked at least 50-60 hours/week and I was in suits every day and it just seemed like the norm. Now it's kinda fun getting my office gear on twice a week (no baby dribble or vomi on my shoulders!!). I'm loving my life at the moment - I feel so fulfilled being able to spend my days with my little girl and still keep a balance of work. I have no idea about the "trying" for a particular gender so can't help you there sorry.

Brooke stays awake for about 3 hours between sleeps during the day too. We generally are out and about each day to do something (dropping stuff in to work, groceries, running errands, etc) but I try to make sure we have plenty of play time at home too and we also spend a bit of time outside. When Brooke sleeps I quickly jump on the computer to do a bit of work. Walks are great if we have a bit of time on our hands.

Well guys, I'm supposed to be working so best get back to it... I think I'm becoming addicted to this site!

Part of me would like a day a week now, or at least the equivalent in home work, but I am finishing off some units at uni and really should be dedicating my time to that! It is great that you are finding it fulfilling. I am looking forward to going back in October, but am really trying to make the most of my time at home with Caden for the moment.

hi girls,

I have been working p/t for a few months now and it has been quite a good balance. I get really frustrated that I am pretty much doing what I did when I left, but that is only for another 7 weeks.. I am then going to look for something closer to home and less stressfull. Maybe even checkout operator.. As long as it isn't fast food, I am not too fussed. Oh how priorities have changed. Even a month before I had Kimmy, I said I would go back full time, but not now, no way..

As for #2, we decided that since I'm not going back to work full time that we would like another one next year.. So maybe later this year, there might be some news.

Mothers day was nice, and I actually had all the mothers here at my place (mum, MIL, SIL and grandmother) as we too had a christening. As somebody else posted, really seemed like the time!! My brother even flew in from WA at midnight on Saturday night, so for the 1st time since our wedding 4 and 1/2 years ago, my side of the family was all together..

Kimmy's top teeth are taking forever.. They have been trying for the last week, but just won't break the surface.. Ah well.. DH is taking her for her injections tomorrow. I am working and was only joking when I said he had to make up for the last 2, but he's doing it so I'm not complaining. Might just have to come home early if it gets too much for him!! I am feeling blah as I had the flu needle yesterday and now have a head cold..

On a brighter note, she is now sitting on her own.. Is fine while she is playing or has a distraction, but as soon as she concentrates, she topples over.. very funny to watch!!

Think that's me done, am off to finish my lemon drink and go to bed..

Hey Heather,
Caden's top teeth have taken 4 weeks from initial pain and inflammation until now where the top left has finally cut through. I expect the other to come any day also, as that is so close to cutting it is visible through his skin. He too sits by himself, but is not reliable enough for me to leave him without pillows scattered around.

Took him for his 6 month (oops a bit late ) injections today. VERY VERY grizzly, teething and extremely overtired, so not a good day for us.

Hope all is going well for mums and bubs out there!

Just a quick one we are about to go out just waiting for DH to get out of shower....we are going to be late

Molly has finally started to enjoy solids and is crying when she finishes them. I am still very apprehensive about how much to give her as she has only been interested the last 2 days or so but today she has had 2 meals. She has not cut back on any feeds though and is having still 6 a day. It's funny all the stress with her gaining weight in the first 4 months and in the last 2 she has put on 2kg. She really is filling out. DH thinks she is too chubby (of course she isnt) so i cant win. She is up to 6.7kg but still not very long.

DB i hope tomo is a better day for you and Caden isnt too grumpy for too long after his needles. I cant believe all the teeth we havent any yet so all the fun is yet to come.

Heather- how did Kimmy go with her needles? Well i hope. What line of work are you in now?

Dragonbub, I know the feeling of teething and needles.. We got 2 teeth the day of 4 months injections.. But IMO it was better to have all the grizzles in 1 or 2 days. Hope he feeling a little better tomorrow for you!

Well we didn't get injections today and I didn't get to work. Kimmy was really grumpy this morning and DH was a bit worried about having her on his own in that state, so much to work's digust I stayed home. I went with DH to GP but poor little Kimmy was too sick, and we didn't even realise that she was that unwell. I thought it was the teeth till we heard her wheezing. She had a temp of 37.6, rapid heartbeat and a wheezy chest, so instead of injections we walked away with anti-biotics. and instrctions that if she gets any more negative signs, off to the hospital..

I feel really bad that she was that unwell and we didn't notice. She was a little grumpy, but still playing, laughing and squealing and rolling. The temp didn't feel that high, and she is often wheezy 1st thing in the morning and evening when it is really cool. Maybe I am too relaxed?

The anti-biotics have started to kick in, so hoping for a reasonably good night. Just glad that if it had to happen, it happened on DH's weekend off as I'm not feeling too good myself..

Anyhow, off to bed now.. talk again soon.

Hey Heather,
dont feel bad about her being sick and you not noticing. They are the professionals after all, and are meant to know when babies are sick! Rest assured that if she was more sick, you would have noticed and taken action. Caden sometimes feels hot but is normal temp, so it is so hard to tell. I am always checking his temp, as he always seems to have a hot head, but is rarely running a fever. I am sure the opposite can occur as well...

As for injections, they went ok. I hate the screaming and have this primal urge to biff the nurse, grab him and run out of there! Must fight the urge, not conducive to good nurse-patient relations, LOL.

Heather- Sorry to hear that Kimmy has been so unwell. Dont worry you didnt notice i'm sure you would have picked it up if she got any worse, i can put my DD1 to bed thinking she is ok and get up in the night to a 40 degree temp and an asthma attack end up with hosy and think "but she was fine all day" I hope she is feeling much better and you too

Had to laugh at this its very true

We are doing well no complaints here at the moment. Still nothing major to tell- no teeth, no rolling (well the odd fluke) jsut the starting of solids. So far we have tried Rice Cereal, Apple, Pear and Sweet Potato and so far she has loved them all esp the fruit. I have bought lots a vegies today so i can get cooking and freezing. I forgot how much time i used to spend doing it for DD1 but its slowly coming back. Had a bit of a grumpy baby this arvo and i dont know why but i guess she is allowed to have days like that i do! Her cheeks have been rosy and her NR has flared up again so maybe her teeth are moving again. Well thats it from me time to go watch the box with DH before bed.

Howdy girls,

Well, I'm not sure if Brooke's coming down with something or if she has teeth coming thru but she's all flushed in the cheeks and it took me about 2.5 hours to get her to go to sleep tonight (very unusual for her - she's normally out like a light at 6:30pm on the dot every night) - she'd fall asleep in my arms and every time I put her down in her cot she'd scream. Didn't seem to have a temp or anything though so I think it might be teeth...

I've decided to start some rice cereal tomorrow - just the last day or two she seems to be wanting more after her BF (she's cut down to 4 feeds a day now) and is 6 months on Sunday so I think its about time. Will give it a whirl and see how we go.

Heather - hope Kimmy is feeling better! and you too for that matter! Exciting that she's now sitting... Brooke isn't quite there yet but we're working on it!

Hoody - Molly sounds like she's got what Brooke's got - will be interesting to see if it is teeth!! My girl is a healthy little chubba too (so cute )- she's 8kg now and in the 90th for her length! Dr reckons I must have good milk ha ha.

Dragonbub - love your comments... protective motherly instinct coming out!! We've got needles next week so shall see how we go.

Hey Belinda - LOL about the milk. Sometimes they are little piggies! I often get asked if Caden is formula fed cos he is so chubby, not that I think that should make a difference, unless I was feeding him too higher concentrate? He seems to chub up, then have a length-spurt, then looks alot slimmer for a while. He has consistently been 75% height and 75% weight, however recently he went up to 90% height, but same weight. He hasn't grown in length since then though, but his weight is now 9.2 kg so am thinking he has dropped back to 75% again. (numbers numbers, my kindom for numbers)

As for solids, I gave some to Caden when he was 4 months old just to see how he went cos he was fussy after the boob sometimes. Maybe once or twice since really knuckling down at 6 months. I have increased his intake now after chatting to Ngala, as I don't think I was giving him enough because he always ate the whole amount! Last night I challenged myself to find the "bottom" of the "bottomless pit" that is Caden's tummy. It equaled to pretty much 250 mls of solids, or 2.5 jars full. I gave him pumpkin and sweet potato (about 6 ice cubes I think) then some apple (a jar) then some rice cereal! By the time I got to the rice cereal he had slowed down considerably and eventually stopped. I normally would have given him HALF that amount, LOL. He still woke up at 3 am for a feed, but at least he had a fuller tummy for bed and wasn't as irritable.

As for teeth - Caden is def like this when teething. He is off his food a bit more and harder to settle. (immuz combined with teething make for a VERY unsettled bubba). Sounds like things are moving for sure.

Hoody - likewise, Caden never got rozy cheeks, but did get a spot of NR. I hope it doesn't get worse for Molly like before! Maybe apply lashings of Bepanthen as a pre-emptive strike and cross fingers.

As for us - one top tooth, coming and going (I think the gum must heal over for a bit or swell up, thus hiding newly cut tooth?) and one still right there under the surface. I wish I could wring that tooth-fairies neck for taking her darn time!

Lots of rolling onto tummy which is great. He does this weird tummy shuffle thing that I guess is a pre-cursor to crawling as he tries to reach a toy. Great at sitting but even though he can sit without me touching him, he likes me right there otherwise he topples over. I am his security-mumma or something.

Heaps more settled now after immuz and those teeth!

Hello,

Dragonbub... wowza, that's a lotta food that your little fella can pack away!! Good on him! Brooke had her first experience with rice cereal today - it was soooo cute. the first look was a bit of a "what the???" but then she got in to it and took the spoon off me and put it to her mouth. She only had about 4-5 spoons but it was a good start so shall continue! Her daddy reckons she must take after him with liking her food! I'll give her a week on rice cereal I think and then i'll start with some veges.

No signs of teeth yet and she's happier today so will wait and see how we go!

Well my little girl has just woken up so better be off.
