    HCG level driving me crazy!!!

Here is a HCG level chart, thanks to Briggsy's Girl!

    Quote:
Weeks of pregnancy (mIU/ml or IU/L)
    Week 3 HCG = 0 to 5
    Week 4 HCG = 5 to 426
    Week 5 HCG = 18 to 7340
    Week 6 HCG = 1,080 to 56,500
    Weeks 7 to 8 HCG = 7,650 to 229,000
    Weeks 9 to 12 HCG = 25,700 to 288,000
    Weeks 13 to 16 HCG = 13,300 to 254,000
    Weeks 17 to 24 HCG = 4,060 to 165,400
    Weeks 25 to birth HCG = 3,640 to 117,000
4 to 6 wks after birth HCG = Less than 5

After my results today, I have sat down with a chart and doubled them every 2 days, the average supposed to be 1.5 to 2 days.

By 7-8 weeks, if double every 2 days, they will 435,200!!!

How many ladies doubled evey 48 hours, and do these seem very high to you???!!!

They are currently at 850ish, at 4w 6d, but im almost certain I am only 4w 2d, ( I have a 32 day cycle, not 28) which would make the numbers even higher by 7-8 weeks. Will have to wait for the scan to get exact due date.

So, thoughts anyone??? I know I shouldn't obsess, but hard not to when the doc is suss about the levels too!!!

Purple - Hi hun, thought this might ease your mind abit with the HCG levels. The levels wont double every 48hrs all the time, it starts to get longer in time for doulbing.

I found this bit of information at the beginning of my pg to help ease my mind.

For HCG levels <1200 mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 48-72 hours.

For HCG levels 1200 to 6000 mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 72-96 hours.

For HCG levels >6000 mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is >96 hours.

Dont forget everyone is different too with the way their hcg levels rise. Mine this time seemed to take forever to get to a decent level.

    Hugs hun.

I was going to say a similar thing to csab..I didn't think that they double every 48 hour period for weeks and weeks, I thought it was at certain stages that they double, but at other times numbers may not rise that quickly. Anyway, csab explained it much better then me!

Definitely not a straight forward thing to predict anyway.

Even after being quiet conservative, I'll still reach 435,200 just before 9 weeks, still HEAPS high!!

Looking forward to the scan next thursday, if only to ease my mind everything is ok....

*goes to check how numbers look if double evey 4 days instead!*

Even if I double every 4 days from here on on, which would be pretty unusual, I'll still be at least double by 10.3 wks!!!

Off to find something else to sink my teeth into!!!

    Otherwise i'll just go nuts!!

Can you not ask for an earlier scan? At least it'll tell you if it 1 or 2 and it will stop you from wondering. Will you be excited if it is 2? I would love twins!

Honey my hcg levels were 957 at 4 wks and 2 days and then 4697 at 4 weeks and 6 days. My initial hcg result is like urs and then i wanted to have a 2nd hcg test to compare the 1st one with. At no stage did either GP i saw to get the results indicate that there was any probs in fact they said that it indicated the pg was viable. I asked the GP at the 2nd appt whether a higher result meant twins and he said that the numbers are largely due to the size of the placenta which may or may not indicate twins.

Gosh hon, I'm so sorry, I've been there too...

If my numbers only double every 3 days, and everything stays ok, my numbers will be still higher than yours..

To be honest I'm pretty worried about something being wrong besides twins....

I dont know what, as most times the numbers get lower, but i just feel funny about it...

    lol triplets, that's just cruel!

Re the HCG doubling, this can vary massively, and my understanding it's quite non-linear. So you can't just plug it into a spreadsheet and "chart" what it will go up to.. as partic after 8 weeks the rate of increase will really vary - but also I've read (does that make it true haha?) it that it can vary a lot before the 7-8 week mark tho too. Plus from what i saw, the studies that predicted those change rates were pretty small, and there's a bit of "disagreement" about it. Plus that's for 85% of women. For 15% of women, their rate of change might be slower or faster at a certain point (this was me s-slower - which freaked me out, but turned out to be fine).

So you might find your levels change in their increase quite drastically depending on when it is. I do agree that if you're only 4 wks 2 days, they're on the high side though.

From my perspective, I ended up having 5 serial HCG's (which nearly did my head in) and NONE of it seemed to really correspond to what it should. So honestly, IMHO take it with a grain of salt... main thing being that it's a great HCG level, and it all sounds pretty good so far! Looking forward to hearing the next instalment in your adventures!

    Take care

P.S. I think my brain must be s-s-s-slower!

Cant wait to see the doc on Thur, and see if we can get another blood test!!
