Red face Woops! Had a thickshake....

I had a really YUMMY chocolate thickshake from Donut King yesterday with my lunch while we were out shopping and it wasn't until after that i realised perhaps that's a naughty thing to do in the first trimester?!? Seeing as there is soft serve in the thickshake, unless they used icecream from a tub, i didn't actually see it being made.....

I have only had one, is this okay?? From a Listeria Risk point of view?? A place like Donut King has such a high turnover of shakes that i figured all should be fine anyway??

    And please noone scare me!!!!

Thought i'd add that I have been really good in avoiding all soft cheeses, cold deli meats, sushi etc..... I won't go near them!

You'll be fine Renee! Donut King are a lot like Maccas where they have a high turn around of food, so the softserve will be fine. Their equipment will be pretty clean, please don't worry!!!

Unfortnatly I have been travelling since I got pregnant and had to live on many pre made foods - I`m feeling awful and guilty about it. I just read the BB article on listeria and it said the symptoms you should get if you have listeria. I have not had those symptoms so hopefully all is well.
Hopefully all is well for you - pleased you enjoyed a big choccy shake - hmmm, I want one now!

Hi Ren, I think you will be fine! Savour that thickshake if you are going to avoid them from now on. All the off limits foods taste even better when you eat them again for the first time after having bubs

Before I knew I was pregnant I was travelling in Europe and had some yummy italian cheesecakes and salami's etc and german beers all that naughty stuff and DS is fine!

gosh i was so worried but now reading your posts i feel better......and even DH said don't worry it's okay it's not like we have them all the time anyway!!! and cases of listeria are VERY rare....but from now on i'm avoiding thickshakes so i'm not going to make myself worry!! i read even if you contract listeria you don't always get symptoms!! thats scary.
I even had a hot dog too! It was served really hot so didn't think that would be a problem?? This was the first time i have had a shake & hotdog while out and about and pregnant..... so it was a 'treat' for me!

Thanku for easing my mind a little!!!.......

Kimbaz - yeah maccas is like donut king really hey....and your girls turned out fine!! thanks

Nic..... i'm sure your little bubs is fine too

I didn't even think of that when I was pg! I love Wendy's hot dogs and milkshakes, had them often during both pregnancies. Whoops!

I never knew about the soft serve thing until after I had my little girl. Macca's vanilla shakes got me through morning sickness weirdly enough and my little girl is fine.

I never had anything with soft serve with DS but I was at maccas last week and a caramel sundae got the better of me and I had to have it.....I figure 1 won't hurt and I have never had food poisoning of any sort before so figured it would be ok. You will be fine I'm sure.....Now I want a thickshake! hehe

Sad.. but thought i would share.. as it does happen.

My friend had a milkshake at 22 weeks pregnant... At 28 weeks she had lost the baby due to listeria in the milkshake, they had scientist etc... confirm this..

I didnt know it could take so long for it to effect someone.. It can live in your body for up to 92 days....

The odds of getting Listeria is 6 in a million.... I am sure you will be fine.... BUT... it does happen unfortunatly.. which is the sad thing..

Jodi, i loved your post.... hehe it has put my mind at ease now.... thanks honey!

Well, i'm staying away from thickshakes and hotdogs, unless i make my own at home!!! I'm considering, my pigout at the shops yesterday, to be a one-off until i have the baby..... lol although by reading most of the posts in here, seems like everyone has eaten something they weren't meant to and they are fine.....

I'm sure our parents ate all those things that we are told not to now and they werent told of the risks then.....

But yeah i would never put my baby at risk deliberately!! I never even gave it a thought yesterday until it was too late and i'd eaten it all!

Definitely won't touch salamis, cold meats, cheeses etc

DIDI - just read your post, gosh! that's so sad i'm glad to hear however that it's very unlikely for it to happen..... i suppose the more we eat the more likely we are at risk hey... hence why i won't have another hotdog or shake!

hi ren hope your doing well
hot dogs should b ok as long as they are hot, coz listeria only lives in cold temps, hot/cooked soft cheeses are the same. try not to beat yourself up about what you've already eaten, if you're on the look out for symptoms you should b fine. i would def be more careful about eating at places that don't have a high turnover or leave things sitting out in bainmaries etc.
    take care hun
