you can usually feel - or your ob will the amount engaged.
Unfortunately it isnt always a sign of impending labour as bub can slip in and out of engagement prior to labour starting!

Hi Bugalug. My bubs was 4/5 enagaged for 5 weeks before he decided to grace us with his presence. To be honest, I didnt really feel any different which is why I was so shocked when I was told he was 4/5 engaged. It sounds like you're getting to that stage where you're looking for any evidence that baby is on its way??? Only 27 days to go .......

I noticed less pressure on my ribs and more space under them and I was able to breath alot easier when ds engaged, that was at about 35 weeks, and as the others have said it's not an always an indication labour is about to start, ds was born at 41 weeks and 1 day!

my bub was fully engaged at 35 weeks and i knew before the midwife checked because i was getting sharp pains for about 10secs in my pelvic area. It takes my breath away. I still get them now, but its just the baby's head putting pressure on my pelvis. But i could also tell that my boobs weren't sitting on my belly anymore so my belly had dropped.( Im glad they don't anymore too Recently i was having a shower i could feel something moving just in between my legs. I was curious so i had a feel about, not even a inch in was my baby's head we went to get check at the hospital and it was. weird feeling, but it's down which is good.

For me, the only way I could tell DD was engaged was because the middie told me, LOL! For me it didn't feel any different.
Yes, not long to go now! But those last couple of weeks go sooooo slowly, don't they?

DD1 was engaged 4/5 at 34 weeks, I think fully engaged at 36 weeks? but wasn't born til 41+1.
    DD2 & DS didn't engage til labour.

I only knew DD1 engaged as it was on my ante-natal card.

Bugalug, how are you going. Has bubs engaged yet? Mine is still floating in the clouds, but it could all happen withing hours and wham in labour. I engaged at 36 wks Bub1 and with all the rest it was in labour. I was sure this one had dropped last week due to loads of presure down below but Dr on Thurs. said nooooo.

All the best and am right there. Heheheee.
