I have a dentist appointment in August and I will be approx 10 weeks pregnant. I need to have some fillings done so I will be having a Local Anaesthetic
Is it safe for me and baby to have a local at that stage or any stage during pregnancy?
Not sure about that. Have you rung the dental surgery to ask them? I'm sure they would be able to tell you straight away over the phone if it's safe or not.
it can be done but i think they like to do only the ones that are in need of urgent attention. i had dental x rays and fillingswhile i was pregnant with DD1 but my teeth were really bad. just ring your dentist and ask them though.
Its perfectly safe to have dental work done during pg. It is recommended however that you do not have amalgam fillings (that's the silver ones) placed or removed during pg. There is no problem with having local anaesthatic and x-rays while perfectly safe should only be done if ABSOLUTELY unavoidable.
Having said that I recommend that my patients wait until they are in the 2nd trimester before having any work done. Having dental work done will not cause a M/C but I would not want to be blamed should the worst happen after they'd had an appt.
I had teh same worries. I asked my doc and she said it was fine. I just had a checkup and my teeth cleaned, although they say to avoid xrays.
I have to go back soon to have fillings done....6 to be exact and doc said that was fine as long as they only use the white fillings not the silver. The doc says they can give me the anaesthatic but the dentist says i'll be fine without it as they are only small holes.
However saying all this i would wait until your 2nd Trimester before you go, thats what i did, just to be safe.
Good luck
My OB sends a welcome letter when you book in with him. It specifically sates in the letter that it is fine to have any required dental work done. I guess alot of people must ask if he puts it in the generic letter!
Just let them know you are UTD.
Thanks ladies thats a big help. I rang today and change my appt for when Im in my second tri (will be approx 15 weeks instead of 10). The lady just said as long as my GP has cleared it Im all good to have the fillings done
