    Sleeping at 4 months.

My DD wakes up for a feed at least 2 - 3 times a night, usually crying out for food. Is this the amount of feeds that she needs during the night? I find that I am feeding her during the day every three hours and I am beginning to get exausted. I have heard that if I feed her every time she wakes at night that she will come to expect it everytime she wakes and will need it to fall back asleep at night. Should I be just trying to get her back to sleep? I do try this sometimes but I find she just keeps waking up every 20 mins later.

My DD in 7 months and still wakes 2-3 times a night. I feed her as she is then back asleep within 15 mins whereas when I try and settle her she just cries till she gets fed. I don't think my DD is hungry at all- just looking for mummy and comfort in the night. This is very common and normal. Sleeping through is usually a 5 to 6 hour block, not from 7pm to 7am (as I initially thought). I just gave up and now try to structure my days so I get rest during the day and a sleep when she has a nap. I am too tired during the night to try settling. Give it a go if you want. I have found over time that her time between waking has stretched bit by bit. Is taking her in your bed an option?

I started to do a feed and put DD to bed by 7pm then do a 'dreamfeed' at 10pm (DD is normally asleep for this). For the first couple of nights she woke at 2-3am and I re-wrapped her and patted/rocked her back to sleep and she will now generally sleep right through to 6-7am. I started doing this at about 12 weeks as I too was exhausted from continual feeding, she's now 16 weeks and still sleeping well at night.

This isn't unusal for this age and also beacuse they are much more interested in whats going on they dont always have enough thru the day so need to make up for it during the night and because there is less stimulation they are able to feed better & quicker. Its really tough but it wont last forever, my DD is now only waking once a night in general at the worst twice so those longer stretches of sleep arent too far away.

My DD was like that a couple of weeks ago. At the time I noticed a lot of changes with her and she had a growth spurt. It could be that.

Thank you for all your replies.Hopefully it is just a growth spurt or change but I was just concerned that I may be getting her into a habit of waking and being fed. I don't mind the getting up stuff, it's what I might be doing for the future feeds by setting a precedent which worries me.
