Help!
I don't know if a thread has already been started on this, but teeth grinding....
My ds (who is now 11mths) has started to grind his teeth... My mil told me about it on Wednesday and have not noticed it previously. This morning in the car (it's friday- whoo hoo!) I noticed it. He was just staring out the window. He wasn't upset about anything. He stopped when we told him to, but maybe its an absent minded thing, coz he kept doing it. Each time we told him to stop, he stopped, but would go back to it.
We are trying to stop the dummy, its for only when he goes to sleep, could that be it? HE doesn't really want his dummy during the day anyway...
There is so much going on with his body atm (he says uh-oh when he's just wet himself) and I'm sure there's a growth spurt about to happen... Could it just be a way of discovering his teeth (there is also a bottom tooth coming through). ITs a terrible sound - how can I stop it?
I would be interested as well. My DS is 23 months and he has started grinding his teeth as well. I think his 2 year molars are coming through so it might be a teething thing but the sound is awful.
Any tips please???? He also stops when I ask him to but then starts again.
Hi girls
DD started to do this when she had top and bottom teeth (i guess it is a little exploration).
I ignored her when she did it (althought it drove me nuts lol).... and eventually she stopped doing it.
She doesnt do it now at all... got over it i guess, and no reaction wasnt much fun?!
p.s she has had 4 molars thruough in the last 4 weeks and hasnt pickesd it back up!

My DD started this at about 11mths old too. At this time i ignored it and she soon stopped. She did start it up again 6-8mths down the track and then I would tell her no, which made her stop.
I think it has to do with exploring. They have teeth and they can make a great (not!) noise. It's all a part of growing up.
So I would try telling them no when they do it, or if your happy to ingore it then do that. It will pass soon
My DS started this at around the same age, and I asked the day care ladies why they did it. They said it was because of teething and the vibrations helped any pain or anything they were feeling.
Don't know how true it is, but he stopped doing it shortly afterwards and hasn't started up again.
DS started to do this at about 8 months when his bottom teeth came through. It drove me nuts I couldn't stand the noise. I just distracted him when he started doing it. Gave him a toy he could put in his mouth and he doesn't do it anymore.
Just exploration of a new body part I think. The new toy he has found is his willy but that is a whole different story (lol)
its quiet common for kids to grind teeth, theres not much you can do about it and as long as they stop by the time the adult teeth come through then theres nothing to worry about!!
