Red face Going to the toilet while babywearing?

We've so far only used our sling for the supermarket and market shopping, however this morning the little one would not settle no matter what i did and i have an essay that is due next week (i've one week left of a 4 week extension so it has to be done) so i decided to pop her in the sling and go for a quick walk - she is now fast asleep and so I can get on with study (in theory...yet i'm on here). Anyway, getting to the point, how do you do things like go to the loo? Do you just wear them while you go? Or risk disturbing them? I remember in antenatal classes the midwife said that when she was at the shops whilst babywearing, she had to go to the loo and so took the sling off ( i think it was a pouch one) and hung it on the back of the door - not sure if she was joking or not!

(how to turn a simple question into an essay - if only my real essay wrote itslef so easily!)

    Thanks

OMG I would never hang the sling on the door, who knows how stong the hooks are. I hope she was joking.
This happened to me a few times, I just left DD where she was I still had my hands free and could manage fine. I figured it was better to do that than the alternatives - eg hooks or dirty floor!

If I have to go when out then I just go whilst still wearing bubs. It is just easier than getting her in and out. Also if I am by myself I have no choice, I am not going to lay bubs on a toilet floor. At home I judge whether it is safe to put bubs down, if not then I just go to the toilet wearing her.

It's easy just to go if you have to and I've done it stacks of times. I also don't like thinking about what to do with bub if you take the sling off down the shops!

I just go with DD in the carrier. I mean, where else can I put her? Not on the floor. Its a normal bodily function, so its not a big deal to me. XP has had her in the carrier, and gone to the loo. Standing up though. I would have taken her from him, but she'd just gone to sleep.

I'm all for going to the loo while bubs is in the sling. Public or not The worse I find is when they fall asleep in the shops just as you are getting ready to get to the car and then you have to either stay or wake them up to put them in the car.

Yeah, I'm a go-er as well. Just got to be careful if he's in a wrap or MT that I hold any dangly straps - could get a bit scary otherwise.

I just go to the loo. Quite often with DS awake in the carrier now - well, if I NEED to go I don't have the time to jump him out the carrier at home (it's a big old wrap one) and I don't want him running off in a public loo.

I've never given it a second thought! Well, only in the early days when unzipping jeans with legs in the way, but I'd rather DS sleep or be happy than me wet myself.

I agree with, well everyone lol, it's just easier to go with 'em in there!

I too hope that that woman was kidding about hanging the sling with bub insitu (sp) on the door, I mean, not only could the hook not be strong enough but what if there was a bag snatcher??!!! How many times have you heard of someone having their bag nicked while they were on the loo by someone just reaching over & taking it...??

No issue for me - I always took DS in with me, asleep or awake. When he got mobile, he'd come in anyway!
My theory is that he has virtually trained himself to use the toilet because we've shown him how to do it. He never had a fear of the sounds of the toilet or the idea of the toilet flushing because he just got used to it whilst in the sling
Sling worn babies pick up on social norms and conventions far quicker than pram babies because they are involved in the interactions at adult level. As well as all the other well-documented advantages of baby wearing

Thanks girls! By the time I needed to go today, I had just changed her nappy and so she was content in her cot while I went, but I'll be trying going to the loo whilst wearing her next time.

I used a ring sling and I have also used the loo while baby wearing many times. You just do it hun - I have also done it while holding a baby with no sling, and I can tell you which one is easier LOL!!

Oh MR, you are so right on that one! It reminded me of when Euan was three days old, we were still in hospy, and it was my first night with him after he was released from SCU. I was still in stupid amounts of pain from the c/s, Euan was 'unsettled' (that's putting it mildly, he literally turned into demon baby and screamed from 9:00pm to 6:00am) and would scream the second he was put down, so I had no choice but to go to the loo with him in arms. It was like juggling a noisy octopus. Boy do I wish I knew then what I know then about carriers. Next baby is going in a ring sling from birth.

Oooh the amount of times I've had to stay for aaaaaaaages because of that and nothing to do but wander aimlessly...lol.

As for going to the toilet with bubs in a sling well actually hugabub, yep done that. I found it quite similar as trying to go when heavily pg except bubs is on the outside..lol. I don't get to go on my own much any more anyway..haha.
