Just need to see if anyone has a magic cure for constipation? Well I think its constipation, she has been really straining and then crying when she is pooing (sorry tmi!) It's very distressing for her and me. She's fairly new to soilds(started at 6mths),is having 3 meals a day (2 serves rice cereal,2 serves fruit,1 serve veg) and is a great eater.I've tried giving her alot of apple and pear to move things along but it doesnt seem to help.I've also tried brown sugar in her water, which kinda worked but I dont want to havet to give it to her all the time.Today I gave her some diluted prune juice in her water so I'll see how that goes.Anyone got any advice? Could it be the rice cereal blocking her up? Oh, and she's BFed
Try and get some water into her hun as that should help. Even from a cup if you don't want to give her a bottle. Otherwise... try cycling her legs to get things moving down there OR massaging her lower belly in circles OR wiping her bottom with a face washer/wipe to see if that can encourage a movement. Hope she is better soon.
I just went through this with my bub, i ended up having to get some infant coloxyl from the chemist and gave her that plus water, prune juice and pears it took a good 4 days for it to clear up and she was so much happier after. She has just started to get a little blocked up so will give her some coloxyl again.
My DD has the same problem. We are finally managing it now (2.5 months later) with a homeopathic remedy. I took her to the GP early on and got some Actilax and then Parachoc. All was ok with these (other than the fact that they were sugary gloop) but when I stopped using them she stopped going to the toilet. It got to the point for us where extra water, pureed prunes, prune juice, pears etc weren't having any effect. I then went to a homeopath for a consult and things have really improved and she now goes by herself without stool softeners. Don't leave it too long though, it just gets worse.
I'd give the rice cereal a break if it is iron fortified as that can really block them up. Bananas can as well so give them a break. Lots of pears and plums and a bit of prune juice that's what helped my DD.
If you want a sure fire way to get rid on constipation get some pitted prunes put them in a bowl and cover them with hot water, wake them in the microwave and cook until they are really soft, say 5 mins then purae(sp?) them into a paste, at first give you little one about 1.5 tablespoons of the prunes, do this twice only as too much will cause the oppiste, then to mantain put about 1 teaspoon mixed into baby rice a day and increase or decrease as nessasary.
I would try this befor using medication.
Try Infants Friend, I used it at every feed for a couple of days and it pushed things through when my DD was constipated. I have also used prune juice mixed with some water. Pears works too for my DD. GL
Thanks ladies for the replies
