    Do babies dream?

I've been googling this question all night, and I can't find anything of real value. Any threads (like the yahoo questions) have so many conflicting answers, most of which just appear to be personal opinions. I can't seem to find any real answers.

The reason I ask is because DD (10 months) has been waking a lot (more than usual) lately, but it's more just wanting comfort more than anything. DH asked me tonight if she could be having bad dreams as when she woke with a cry, he went in and she seemed upset. Grabbing at him for cuddles. When we're in there, she seems to go back to sleep fairly easily.

I don't think dreams might be the problem, since it's happening every 45 mins to an hour at the moment. But I'm still curious, in case it could be bad dreams.

So does anyone know - do babies dream? Can they have bad dreams?

Simple answer - yes and yes. They do dream and can have bad dreams. Sometimes if they have a pretty bad one if can take a while to calm down. If you find they are really distressed and hard to rouse then it could be night terrors. I dont know much about it but thought it tended to happen later though. Our DS has bad dreams and sometimes we have to wake him right up to calm him down by turning on the light etc. Hope this helps.
