Question Water instead of bf at night for toddler

OK, I'm ready to try offering water instead of bf if DS wakes during the night (before 5am) - what do I offer it in? He drinks from a pop top bottle during the day, occasionally a sippy cup or a straw cup, but I'm afraid he'll spill water on the bed if I leave it with him or on his bedhead, so would I be better to use a bottle to avaoid the spillage?

At the moment he comes into our room & I bf in bed. Would it be better to make DH take him back to his room to offer the water and lie with him till he falls asleep?

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

We just used a sippy cup that had a non-spill valve. But DS was younger when we did this, so we still kinda helped him with it. He didn't help himself to it iykwim.

But even at your DS's age, if he helps himself to it and leaves it lying on the bed it shouldn't spill. Few drops at worst. My DS has always been good at closing spouts and things (he's a bit of a perfectionist with things like that LOL) so that also helped.

    Good luck!

    Thanks ladies.

Unfortunatly my DS is th opposite to yours Liz in that if he can spill water he will - all over the table, into his plates, onto the high chair tray LOL. I never bought a cup with a valve, as he was good with th straw cup, I guess I'll experiment.
