What did you get your child for their first birthday?

Our DS turns 1 in a couple of weeks. Just looking for some inspiration for present ideas.

He already has alot of toys, teddies etc, so looking for things that he can use now or grow into.

My DD is 1 in a few weeks and we are getting her a trike with a push handle.. She loves going to the park, and is getting to heavy and squirmy to carry, and as it is only 5 houses away, I don't like getting the pram set up.. She will get lots of use (I hope) from it..

DS got one of those little 3 wheeler plastic trikes that you can get from Kmart. He loved it and used to ride it all the time, now he is 4 and rides DD one(even though he has a big boys bike). The other thing both my kids received were books and clothes.

We got DS a plastic tool stand thingy with all the tools attached - mind you didnt set it up immediately but he still uses it now. For DD we got her a leap pad pull along caterpillar that sang the alphabet and sounded out letters phoentically. Both toys are still used today.

We got DD her first doll (Baby Born) and a wooden toy box. We wanted to ger her some type of furniture and her nanna got her table and chairs. I asked this question a while back and lots of people said they got seomthing "big" like furniture or a bike. Mackenzie got soooooo many toys and books and clothes so I'm glad we didn't go overboard in that department. Have fun!

Dont know about little boys - i have 3 girls - but my best friend bought her son for his 1st birhtday some cufflinks....i know he prob wont be using them for another 15+yrs, but a lovely thing for him to say 'thats what mum and dad bought me for my 1st birthday'.

I bought my DD who turned 1 last month a pandora charm. I then bought her a few little toys. I was so glad i didnt spend a fortune on plastic toys.....she really was more interested in the wrapping paper i used to wrap them in. At least when she is older i can show her the pandora charm we bought her....

We got DS a trike with a handle, which he loves, especially the bell, and his uncle got him one of the cosy Coupe cars from Target, which he thinks is the absolute bees knees.

We were talking about this tonight and I think we're going to get him his name plaque for his bedroom door. He has plenty of toys, clothes etc. I'll probably get him some books as well.

mbear - love the pandora charm idea, that's beautiful!

We got Noah the Thomas The Tank Engine Mega Set, it was $85 down from $130 and we don't set up the whole track now, just small portions of it, he is more interested in the trains for now anyway than the track, it is meant for 3+ so plenty of room to grow.

little people, they can bang and suck on them safely when they are 1 and play with them as they get older. we bought them for oscar and he still plays with them most days at 3. best decision ever, and you can add to them in smaller or bigger sets, we lurve the little people!

I second the flip-out sofa - best present we ever got DD, she gets so much use out of it. And even though they are meant to be for older kids, she LOVES (and is very good with) books that have the sliding parts/tabs and flaps. Also, musical instruments like xylophones, drums and tambourines, an easel with big stubby crayons/paintbrushes and a little, indoor/outdoor slide with a platform - these all get lots of use.

back again - my DS was also given a pop up tent with plastic balls, which he loves, as do all the other kids that have visited when it's been up. Although for a while it was known as the poo tent, because that's where he used to retreat for some privacy
