My 2 yo keeps sucking his bottom lip - how to get him to stop

    Hi,
Just hoping for some advice. my 2yo DS won't stop sucking and biting his bottom lip. He is starting to do quite a bit of damage, causing blister type sores that are just not healing.
Any advice on how I can try and get him to stop? or what I can put on it too help with healing??

    Thanks
    Meg

I don't have any advice but will keep an eye on the thread as DS1 does the same thing!

I haven't got any advice because when Yasin used to do it we didn't bother trying to stop him. he gave up on his own eventually. Maybe you could offer a distraction like a sippy cup with water...

Don't have this problem but keeping his mouth busy with cold teething rings etc might help. Also you could put some bonjela on the sores. As well as an antiseptic to help them heal they also have a local anaesthetic so it might stop the cycle of sucking (eg. if he is doing it now because of the sores being sore or itchy) or make it less rewarding because of the lack of feeling. HTH.

There is a product called "never suck". originally designed for bubs who suck thumbs/nailbiters. It tastes bitter, so when you apply it to their lips/thumb - it deters them from sucking. Availbale at the pharmacy (or they should be able to order in for you). HTH.

I don't think the "never suck" would be a very good idea. It spreads and it would make every thing he ate taste awful. Also it's meant for use on nails which are a bit tougher than lips.
I don't think the little guy would even understand why everything tasted so yuck.
