Hi all...just wondering if anyone knows or has any comments about this one. Is it true that an active unborn bub will be an active baby? And does an active baby necessarily have to be a 'difficult' baby?
My DS was a very active bub unborn...then came out with reflux & barely slept/cried basically all the time. Now this bub (a girl apparently) seems to be even more active than DS was & I'm starting to wonder if she too will have reflux and also be a bad sleeper & cry lots. I'm hoping it's just a myth...
Matilda did flips in the womb, even up until 40 weeks. People would comment on how much my belly moved and it became a party trick, where I could have a plate of food knocked off my belly.
She was/is an extremely active girl.
Jovie was pretty active in the womb.... I never had to worry about movements with her either and she's not as active. Quite happy to sit and play for ages... loves books.
My DS1 was VERY active on the inside, it felt like he moved and kicked non-stop! When he came out he was very active and 4 years later still is. But I don't think it means you'll have a difficult baby, DS1 has always been very easy-going since he was born. We had difficulties in the beginning, but it turns out he had a dislocated shoulder from birth, so no wonder he was distressed! A few trips to our paediatric chiro fixed his shoulder and after that he was a very easy baby.
DS2 was much calmer on the inside, he moved, but not as actively or as strongly as DS1. He has been a much less active baby who has taken longer to crawl, etc. He is actually a much harder baby than DS1 though!
Jazz was moving around constantly inside (including in labour when she'd move away from the monitor cheeky), we have videos Shel took and are a great source of amusement!
Shes only 2 months but I think she's going to be an on-the go kid, even now she absolutely MUST be stimulated or she'll cry, is never content just sitting, needs to have something to watch and touch and her arms and legs never stop moving!!!!!!! But she's a really good sleeper mostly, not probs with reflux or anything.
Brock was pretty active in the last few weeks when things are supposed to calm down. You could see my belly move from across a room. We always called him our little soccer player.
He had really strong legs from the start and all the midwives who gave him top ups in hossy commented on how well he kicked. He was a very gassy bub from the start as well, he had to be burped about 5 times longer than the other bubs in SCU.
By two weeks he had to be in a sleeping bag as we couldn't keep covers on him.
He's a happy chucker but a very settled, calm bub and always has been. We've never had a sleepless night with him (touch wood). If he woke he just needed to be fed or changed or burped. He self settles and has done from an early age. He sleeps through the night.
He can move himself up the change table with a couple of shoves of his legs and have his head hanging off it in seconds. He can roll & turn himself in the other direction in a matter of seconds. The other bubs in my mums group aren't doing this yet, even though some of them are a few weeks older.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, Brock is active but he is calm & settled as well. Hopefully yours will be too.
Being my first pregnancy, I had no idea whether DD was active or not BUT my ob said at every appointment - "VERY active baby".
She is very active but also very, very easy and always has been. By six weeks she was awake and alert for a long time but also slept a lot inbetween and slept through. Now at 14 months, she still has two naps a day - up to FIVE HOURS of days sleeps! But I think that's because she's always on the go so completely wears herself out.
She did have reflux which was a bit of a pain in terms of the amount of washing and dabbing at the carpet that I had to do, but she was a very happy chucker so no big deal.
So active does not necessarily mean trouble - in DD's case it's actually a blessing.
well I must be opposite Jack was very active in the womb, he turned and turned right up till he was born he was turning, but he was the quietest easiest goign baby, and even now at 2 he is so laid back compared t his friends
Both DS1 were very, very active in utero, and have been ever since. But DS1 was an easy baby and slept well from very early on. DS2 was a very colicy baby and didn't sleep well at first, although now he is a brilliant sleeper. So in my case, active yes, difficult, not necessarily.
DD was the complete opposite inside. Hardly moved at all in the womb - even with icey water, pokes and much encouragement. But she has been super active ever since she was born. She hardly stops! DH asked the other day if she has ADHD! Having said that, her energy and constant activity are not a problem. The toddler antics she gets up to are no worse than any other child her age. Some days I wish she'd sleep more (like when she comes in at 5am pulling the covers off Mummy!) but I'd much rather her be active than sit in front of the telly or on the computer all day... just wish I had a back yard for her to play in instead of running circles around the house!!!! We keep her occupied with games in her room, role play (she loves to "shop" and to "cook"), colouring in, loking in books etc.
My DS was so active in the womb but is now a very happy smiling 4 month old!!!
He has to be doing something all the time tho (if he's not sleeping) especially with his hands and his mouth but I put this down to exploration!!
So I think it is just pot luck with what they become once they are born and probably depends on you and DH's personalities!!!
My two were VERY active in the womb and are still VERY active (10 and 3). Soooo.. as this baby is not at all active compared to them, I am really hoping the theory is true and this will be my first placid baby!!! However reading some of the posts, I could be in for an0other active bub!! xo
Jack was EXTREMELY active in the womb....was kicking like a maniac from 17 weeks, it got to the point where I was hardly sleeping at all, as he was constantly kicking and moving around.
He is still a very active baby (as anyone who has seen my videos on FB would know, LOL). He even almost rolled off the scales after the birth when the nurse was trying to weigh him (she called everyone over to have a look at "this crazy baby") LOL.
He's not that great a sleeper, but, is certainly not difficult. Never had reflux and hardly ever cries. He does need to be entertained though, the upside is that he is always laughing and smiling and is just a delight to be around!
Claire was pretty active in the womb (but I dont really have anything to compare to).. and she is still really active. She doesnt sit still and just has to move around constantly.
