How many day sleeps for 6 month old?

How many day sleeps should a 6 month old baby be having? I'm never quite sure if I am putting him down too often or if he is not having enough sleep?

I know that all babies are different but we have been having real trouble with night sleeping, Jack is waking every couple of hours (not fully awake, I can usually pat him back to sleep) but I am still getting exhausted! I don't know if it is because he is not getting enough or getting too much sleep in the day.

Either three or four - can't quite remember. But it varied a lot in our Mothers Group.

Natty was having 2 or 3. TBH, I found her day sleeping did not make any difference to her night sleeping. (I kept a journal for a couple of months noting all sleeps and feeds because I was desperate. She too was waking 1-2 hourly overnight at that age.) But I know loads of others will testify otherwise, and of course it's always worth trying something different to see if it works!
Natty would have 45min-1.5hours in the morning, then the same in the early afternoon, then a later afternoon nap of 45min-1hour.

Thanks Snacks...Jack is having about the same day sleeps as Natty was. How long did Natty's night waking last? Do you know why she was waking so often?
