On Friday I had to ring my OB due to spotting again (why can`t I have a normal pregnancy like I did with DS#1) anyway after talking to him he reassured me that he wasn`t concerned as my levels were great, he said they were:
30,000 at 6 weeks, 3 days (30DPO)
40,000 at 6 weeks, 5 days (33DPO)
It wasn`t until I got off the phone to him that I realised they didn`t double like they should but he wasn`t concerned he just kept saying they were great.
So can they actually slow down and take longer to double then they do earlier?
once numbers get past i "think" 6 weeks, the doubling effect isn't as regular as you get very early on. Most clinics don't even continue monitoring HCG after that point as a scan is a much more reliable way of checking on bubs. the fact that your levels are continuing to climb is a fantastic sign - if you are concerned, you shoudl be able to check your bub on an u/s at this point - even if it has to be an internal scan...
fwiw - i had BT at what we no think is 3w4d, 4w3d, 5w3d, and my levels never went above 3000 ish. my clinic did a scan two days after that last test, confirmed pregnancy was viable, and wouldn't do any more BT's as the stress of monitoring numbers after that point can be more detrimental... when i was feeling things not tracking as well as they should (two days of minimal MS after 2 weeks of hell) they referred me for another scan, rather than any hcg monitoring...
Thanks for coming to my rescue once again BG, my OB did those first HCG BT`s as I was spotting and he doesn`t like doing an u/s till 8 weeks, so when I rang again on Friday which is when I got my results but I rang due to the spotting again he was still hesitant about doing an u/s till 8 weeks, I did feel a whole lot better once talking to him and he wasn`t concerned because of the levels being so high but since I keep thinking, they didn`t double, it`s just me being paranoid!!!!
Oh well only another 4 days till my u/s.
I also realise why he wants to hold off as like Adrian himself, he never showed up till 8 weeks, yet his twin showed up at 6 weeks, so I guess it`s because of reasons like this as to why he likes to wait.
makes perfect sense to hold off on the u/s - i think i only got one so early because of the fact that it was an IUI pregnancy and they were checking viability, number of sacs, and that it was in the right place. i had another scan at 8w3d and the FS requested an internal scan as it's clearer. don't be afraid if, when you get to scan, to ask for an internal scan if they say they can't see enough - i know it's not comfy, but it's comforting when you can see so much more
