Can severe nappy rash cause scarring?

    Hi all,

My 16 month old daughter has severe nappy rash- we are now seeing a dermatologist as she has had the rash for more than three weeks. None of the doctors seem to know exactly what the rash is (not standard nappy rash). We're on another treatment regime that I just think isn't going to work. I'm worried that because she's had the rash so long (and it's blistery) that she's going to scar. I would hate for that to happen and didn't think to ask the dermatologist. I have another appointment next week, but I'm concerned that the longer the rash stays the more likely it will scar. Anyone know?

I would say that it *might* scar, but I wouldn't think that it actually would, as your DD grows, the scarring, if any, will fade.

I'm not sure if that helps you, but I imagine, that most scars or marks (like from scratches, etc) would fade on a child, especially from such a young age. I am sure that she will be okay, and that you will nothing to worry about .

DD1 had a horrible nappy rash about a year ago, sounds similar. It had an infection and she needed an antibiotic cream. She did scar, but now it's almost completely faded so that it can hardly be seen.

    Hope it clears up soon.
