I'd take the little man to the doc, just in case
Yesterday afternoon around 5pm Glenn was carrying a dinner chair () to the computer to watch Evan playing a game. Im not sure exactly what happened as I was in the bedroom changing Iain. He fell & tells me the chair fell on his leg. He layed on the floor crying & carrying on, which for Glenn is pretty normal. He is a real drama queen at the moment. Me being the horrid mother that I am, Pulled him up to stand as I was still holding Iain & couldn't work out what was wrong with Glenn while he was on the floor. When I pulled him to his feet, it was pretty obvious that he couldn't bear weight on that leg. I gave him panadol & he continued to cry for a good 40 mins or so after. He wont bear weight on the leg STILL this morning but if I put pressure on the sole of his foot he is fine, well not fine, he does sook a little but its hard to tell if thats simply because he thinks its going to hurt.
There is no bruising but is a very slight bump on his shin where he says it hurts.
You hear stories all the time of kids breaking bones that go un noticed for days so I am unsure of what to do. Should I go to the Dr & ask for it to be xrayed?
I'd take the little man to the doc, just in case
Doctors...best to know if he has done any damage!
Im just thinking they will say hmmm just keep an eye on it. I know it sounds slack but its such a big trip if the Dr is just going to send me home.
Hmmm, maybe give it a little more time. Then you can see if he "forgets about it" or not. I have a drama queen too, he limped in last night to request an xray as surely his leg was broken.....
Maybe make an appt this afternoon, so you can cancel it in case of sudden recovery. Anything but drag the entire tribe out unecesarily.
Maybe just bandage it up and see how he goes?
Yep, I probably would. I'm one of those kids - had a badly broken wrist for 3 days before she noticed lol.
Can you flex and extend his foot?
Yeah I can bend/flex/rotate etc. He just refuses to bear any weight on it.
Can you rub behind the bump on his shin? My bro did a similar thing when he was 4, and the emergency room dr (yep he was THAT MUCH of a drama queen LOL) rubbed behind his leg and said if anythings broken he'll be in pain behind as well as on the bump. It wasn't broken by the way lol, just a lumpy big bruise. If you poke behind and it hurts definately take him to the dr. Don't poke to had though JIC lol
I would err on the side of seeing the doctor. It's possible to damage the bone without it being an apparent fracture. It's a pain in the butt if there's nothing actually wrong but IMO better to be safe than sorry. My DD1 is a total drama queen when it comes to the most minor injuries but the docs always say, bring her in and we'll check.
If I was close I would be down in a heart beat but its a 40 min drive (one way). Plus having a 2 yr old that likes to run & a 11 day old its hard seems Glenn he wont walk I would need to carry him.
I might get everyone ready & then take Evan to school. Will see if I can get an afternoon appoinment & then see how he goes over the day.
God I hate living up here some times...
I'd take him. I have had a broken wrist not noticed for 4 days and a broken ankle that was dx as sprained and healed (slowly and agonisingly) without a cast....
Bx
Yeah I think I will take him, Just now as I got him dressed he was distracted by lazy town & it hurt for me to put his sock on. Then I was watching him & he kinda went to get off the couch with out thinking & as soon as he went to put weight on it, it sort of buckled underneith him. So I think it is as sore as he is making out...
Thanks ladies.
eta appointment for 10.45am. At least if she does think an xray is warranted I will have time to go do that also.
Tempted to just stop at the vets I worked at & get them to xray it LOL

OOh the poor thing (and I understand - drama queen here too!! must be something with boys.. )
Hope he is ok!!!
Yeah, I'd take him to the doctor as well. Not weight bearing is a pretty classic sign of some sort of injury. Good plan.
My DS did the same thing a few months ago, he hurt his leg/ankle or something on his bed there was no marks or swelling initially but he wouldnt bear any weight on it so I took him to the Dr's the next day. It was slighlty swollen but the Dr didn't feel it was broken but told me to wait until Fri (this was on Wed) and if he still won't walk on it to get the xray. Thursday morning he still wasn't walking...he was actually crawling to get around but by lunchtime (after I made the xray appt) he just started walking again with a very slight limp that night he was fine.....Sorry long story but I think he jarred it and it did hurt at 1st but then he was scared to put weight on it in case it hurt still. I can understand you not wanting to take him to the Dr's if its nothing....but if he isn't any better by tomorrow I would take him, can anyone come with you to help you with the other kids?
