DD waking up soaked through - what's going on??

My DD has for over a year gone to bed at 7.30 pm and woken up between 8.15 and 9am. Doesn't matter what's going on, that's what she does. Over the past couple of weeks she has been waking up anywhere from 6am to 7.30 am and she is absolutely soaked through. She has occasionally been wet in the past but the most it has been is dampness on her pj bottoms. This is full on wetness with her nappy, pjs and bedding really wet. The poor little thing is very distressed by it.

Does anyone know what's going on? Do toddlers suddenly grow a much bigger bladder literally overnight? The earlier mornings are a nuisance but I hate to see her so upset. Should I start waking her up during the night to change her nappy or maybe go in around 6am and change her nappy then? I just don't know what to do and nobody I know has had this problem.

Is she having a big drink just before bed - can you give her her drink earlier in the hope some of it comes out before she goes to bed and then put a clean nappy on straight before bed... not sure what nappies you are using, I find I need to go to the next size up for over night....

Sorry - should have said. She has a bottle, story, nappy change then bed. I've got her in huggies overnight and she's already in the size range that she only just creeps into the bottom of - 10 to 15 kgs or whatever it is and she is barely 10kgs.

Bloody huggies LOL Im on a huggies rant this morning.. dd NEVER wets through her nappies, and she's in the woolies brand... got to the bottom of the nappy barrell last night and put her a huggies... guess who was up at 4am this morning changing a soaked through baby and cot sheets..

Hhhmmm I dunno Lulu - my first thought was to change nappy size but obviously that won't work. Have you tried other types of nappies? We use Aldi overnight and never had a leak. The early morning nappy change might have to be the go hun but will she go back to sleep afterwards? I know my DD wouldn't lol! Good luck!

i saw an add for new nappies yesterday and they had night nappies available, cant remember the brand as it was new, think it started with an S

Woolies and aldi ones are awesome! Never had a wet one like i said.. and they are soooooo much cheaper... Woolies ones are $22 for 88 nappies

If I was you I would go down a size in the huggies. I know that everytime we move up a size in the huggies if DS is only just reaching the bottom end of the size scale we will occasionlly have night leaking. If your DD is barely 10kgs, maybe putting her in the crawler size (6-11kg) for a little while might work.

those new nappies with an overnight nappy are called Sorbies. Have been meaning to try them but I don't know where to get them from. I use huggies and I don't know how many times my son has woken up wet through!! VEEEEEEEEEERY frustrating!!

It might be that she is starting to get some bladder control overnight and does a big wee in the morning as she wakes up.

If this is the case the nappy can't cope with the big influx of urine all at once. It might be a good idea to go in at 6am and wake her up to wee.. that way you can tell if it is the case, or it's just a nappy issue.

Lulu - I had similar issue with Aiden from the moment he figured out how to drink out of a sippy cup himself.. thankfully, that wasnt till he was about 14months old..
What i do is double nappy him. He is about 13kg, and is in the walker nappies by day, and come nighttime, i put a walker nappy on, and then, over top of that, a junior nappy. It seems to keep the walker nappy snugger to his body, hense stopping leakage. Some mornings, his nappys are so full, there is pratically liquid ontop, but, no leakage. Doesnt always work, but, 9 times out of 10, he's dry.
Also, trying to limit the liquid consumption in the afternoons, however, being warmer weather, if he's thirsty, then, not much you can do. I just give half cups of water, so he doesnt guzzle the hole lot.
he does have 200ml of milk before bed, and he still stays dry.

Could you try getting a fitted night nappy? We use cloth exclusively and haven't had a wet through at all, might be worth looking into (as they are only $30 odd and reusable)

Sorbies are only available from Coles or IGA supermarkets.

I purchased a 'sample' pack the other day from Coles. They're only $2.95 - has 6 nappies it in, 4 day and 2 night ones and was quite impressed! So impressed that I actually brought a bigger pack for DS. The night one I have found that he is still peeing like he usually does but the nappy isnt as heavy and as bulky so the absorbency must be good. They say they have 12-hour protection.

Maybe give them a go?? You're not going to know if it will work for your situation unless you try them.

I've started using the night time Sorbies with her and they have so far been brilliant (touch wood!).

Hisista & Marydean - I've been trying very gently over the last few weeks with TT. She has definitely show a lot of signs of readiness. I've found it too difficult to deal with TTing her while dealing with a very clingy 7 month old so will put in a big effort over Christmas when DH is off work for a bit.

Mel - I used to have her in cloth nappies but she got a really persistent fungal infection. The poor thing is having to have steroid creams, fungal creams, nappy creams in huge doses to keep it under control and that was messing too much with the absorbency of my MCNs. Very annoying when I had just bought another huge stash so DD#2 was cloth bummed too. The MCNs I had for DD#1 don't fit DD#2 very well at all so I have beautiful, almost brand new nappies that neither baby can wear!!
