We've been asked what we'd like present wise for the baby once he or she is born, but we can't see anything we'd like at the moment. Can anyone suggest any really brilliant ideas?
Well Idunno about brilliant, but I know with my first I forget to get a rug/mat to put them on the floor on during the day for playtimes etc (not a play gym, just a mat).

When in doubt and you think you have anything.. Baby wipes! You will ALWAYS need baby wipes. Even nappies. Some other good things if you dont already have them, are play mats, rocker or bouncer, teethers, teething books, any toys really because bubs will always grow and use them, some nice books are good too.

Baby wipes are covered as dps mum works in a hospital and steals the odd packet for us now and then so we have quite a stash growing! We're trying not to accumulate too much useless junk cos of hopefully going back to the uk in june... would be such a hassle to move everything over!
You can never have too many wraps - we were going through 4 a day when DS was little (somehow they always got covered in spew or poo ).
Flat cloth nappies are really useful too - for cleaning up spills, lining the pram, catching spraying breastmilk!
The Hug-A-Bub was a LIFESAVER when DS was little. He loved to be carried around snuggled next to Mum. Sometimes it was the only thing that would soothe him. (It folds up quite small too - so would be no problem to take with you to the UK)
Soft bath towels and washers, a terry cloth bath 'sling/seat' (on a wire frame), a little cuddly blanky with an animal head on it, natural lotions etc, (Moo Goo makes some awesome stuff), medical/grooming supplies (Panadol, nail clippers, good thermometer, comb, brush, pawpaw ointment, etc. - all those things really add up when you have to buy it all yourself)
If you're planning on using cloth nappies, what about suggesting people pool together and get you a nappy service?
Or what about asking people to make you a meal for the family which you can stick in the freezer and reheat when needed - that way you don't need to worry about cooking when you get home.
Muslin wraps are a good one. Do you have enough cot bedding? Mattress protectors and all that?
One of those glider chairs for comfy breastfeeds?
Nice maternity bras? Like Hot Milk?
Pumpkin Patch vouchers?
A video camera or good camera so you can capture bub?
