    7 week old sleeping habits

Hi, i am trying to get my 7week old into some sort of sleeping routin/pattern, but so far not so good. The nights are ok- we alwasy do bath then ,assage then bed about 6.30 etc. but the days are all over the shot. due to some days catnapping etc. overtiredness but i am working on it

Would love to know what others 7week olds are doing re night feeds.. a few weeks ago DS was going about 4 hrs betwen feeds, but the last week its been like this.
6.30 to 11pm, then feed, then its 2am, then 5am, then its like 6.30am. then he has another 40 min nap, and up for the morn about 8am. dont know why he has these little naps early in the morning, anyone else?? he is breastfed solely. thanks

Congratulations on your new bub. It's been a long time since DD was that little but I do remember that I was told to wake her every four hours for feeds and I know now I would not do that with any other babies I have because I felt it really stuffed her around, sleepwise. Also, sleeping and eating patterns can change often. Maybe he is going through a growth spurt or wonder week and is needing those extra feeds? I wouldn't expect a lasting routine of any sort this early on, but I think you're on the right track with keeping your bedtime routine the same. You are probably getting to recognise his tired signs by now, so I say just go with the flow and let him feed and sleep as he demonstrates the need. Sorry can't be of much more help, I just know I wish now I'd been more relaxed about the whole thing! Maybe someone else will have more ideas. Good luck!

    Hi there!

i remember when DD was around the 7-8 week mark that she kinda went beserko on the feeding as well. she just guzzled and guzzled during certain periods of the day (we were in the morning too). i went to mach nurse (we had drop in services in canberra) and she told me that it is really normal around 8 weeks for bubs to have a big change in pattern but that it passes and goes back to something resembling normalcy. and it did!

i recommend to try as best you can to go with the flow. it may only really last a week, and then he will work out how much to drink at the first feed, rather than 40 minutes later go, oh, hang on, maybe i need more IYKWIM.

part of me really believed that because DD was going through some major growing and her needs were going to be changing (ie, finding a more stable pattern in the post 8 week area) she was kinda building up my supply in that 'horror' week (i remember being really really drained...literally and figuratively LOL!).

if it does get a bit too crazy tho' and you think that he may not actually be hungry, but rather just unsettled, if you can get DH or DP to take him for an early morning walk. my DH had to do this with DD at 5.30am most mornings LOL! crunching along the ice on the ground....the dog loved it though!
