DD has been in here big girl bed just over 2 weeks now but this freedom of being able to get in and out as she likes has caused her sleep to drop a fair bit.
She hasn't had day sleeps for months but was being put to bed at 7:30pm and not waking til 8am. Now she is being put to bed at same time but will take longer to get to sleep because she'll get up a couple times, run around, that sort of thing then in the morn she is awake by 6:30- 6:45. Its like as soon as she wakes up and sees its light outside its time to get up.
Of course then by afternoon she is yawning, rubbing her eyes, getting whingy, crying at drop of a hat, all those things but there is no way she'll have a day sleep, especially since she gave them up months ago trying to give her one is WW3!
So she is pretty much gone from 12- 12.5 hrs a night to 10.5- 11hrs. I don't know how to get her to have that little bit extra, I was thinking maybe black out blind so she won't be so eager to jump out or do you think maybe once the novelty of being in the bed wears off she'll stay in that bit longer?
shellbell we are in a similar transition - DS sneaks out of his room and just hangs around the corner peeking at us so we just moved the bed time routine forward half an hour. As for the mornings I am in the same dilemma - a friend has told me about a clock / light you can get (a TTT one but I am sure there are other characters / brands) that you can set the dial to light up at a certain time and when it lights up they can get out of bed - maybe this with a reward system. Or even a clock radio and when the music comes on they can get out of bed... we haven't tried it yet we are currently on the sleep in your own bed all night without getting up reward system (stickers) lol.
Good luck!
Shell honey we have the same issue, now its worse as Tara's now in the cot in the same room (we too made the transition 2 weeks ago) and Tara wakes up at 6am and Julia gets up too If they are in the same room they will both get up regardless unfortunately.
Shell, we have one of those baby safety gates across Riv's doorway, so he'll open the main door of a night, but he can't actually leave the room, so after playing in his room for awhile, he takes himself back to bed. Would that work for you guys?
A safety gate also means you can put them in their room, or on their bed with a book for some 'quiet time' if they're a bit too wound up. Riv still has a day nap most days, but even if he won't nap, I'll start off in there with a book with him, and then leave him to play on his own for awhile.

Hi shellbell, I'm another with a similar prob .. DD used to go to sleep quickly and quietly (well... quietly for a baby ) in the cot, but now takes up to 3 hours in her bed and is up as soon as it's daylight. The only reason she's not in the cot now is that she's a climber - both out of and INTO the cot!
Sorry, I don't have any advice for you, but I'm also thinking black-out blinds. And I like Nelle's safety gate idea!
we went from 12hrs plus 9pm bed for us though now I have to lay with jack or he wont go to sleep and he is up anywhere from 6am-8am *yawn* his day sleeps well .... unless I lay with him he wont sleep *sigh*
Rach we were there too - took a bit of time but now we can walk out before he is asleep and no crying either - just a couple of visits out to us then he settles. Ummm I posted in another thread how we did it but am happy to repost if anyone wants to know.
