Hey all, DS is now 9 months and is still waking at dawn. He has white noise, warmish room, and is first day sleep is at 9:45 yet he is waking at 4:50 - 5:10 most mornings and I AM SICK OF IT !!!!!!!!!!!!! My first DS was early too but he was about 6 am - OK, livable. But before 5 ????? He is in bed about 7pm.
What i am wondering is if anyone has and sucess with getting there bubs to sleep a little longer in the mornings and HOW PLEASE HOW
Thanks
Geez I wish - Miss M wakes up chatting around 4am-ish - and then goes back to sleep herself after a while... but then DS wakes up at 5am and comes into our room and bounces on the bed .....
Today he was bouncing near my head saying "mummy.. mummmy... mummmmmmeeee... nana?... narna? naaarrrrna?"
Sad but i love the banana thing, sometimes you just have to laugh. DS wakes at 5ish chats to himself for 20mins, calls out, i give him some toys in the cot and get in the shower. Generally gets out of bed around 6. My other 5 year old then wakes the world up at 6 too...................
I am sick of going to bed at 9pm just to get the hours in.
One thing I found with DD1, was that by changing her bedtimes she actually slept longer. If she went to bed at 7, she would wake up about 6 and because it was daylight she would want to get up. But if I put her to bed EARLIER, about 6 - 6.30 she would wake at 5 - 5.30 when it was still dark and go back to sleep!
I know what you mean!!! My DD usued to wake with the sun and now that it's summer, that time was getting earlier and earlier.
The trick I usued was to not take her out of her cot until 6. Give her a little pat, some gentle words etc...you get the drift. Anyway that worked a treat. Now, on her own, she sleeps till at least 7:30, sometimes till 8:30 if she has taken alittle longer to get back to sleep after her 4/5am bottle. BTW she is in bed by 7.
Not sure if that will work on a 9month old, but might be worth a shot. Good luck. I know how those early mornings can be frustrating!
Try block out blinds/curtains. They helped DS start to sleep later. He now can wake before 6am but ill go in and lay him down and tell him to go back to sleep. He does. Guess he knows the routine.
I bring ds into bed with me from 5 and we snooze together- he gets free access to the boobie and i get a few extra hours of rest!!! We can push it to 9am or even 10am like today!!
Oh and the cool things are signatures- you can make one- you go to user profile and click on signature- if you want to include a ticker then you have to make one from a ticker site and then add it to your signature- i hope that was clear enough to understand!!!
I actually found that putting DS to bed later helped him. He now goes to bed about 8:30pm & wakes up somewhere between 6&7. If he wakes before 6:30, I bring him into bed with me & he will generally sleep until after 7.
Thanks all . I dont know if its that a "put it out there" or what but the last two days he has slept till 6ish, i can live with that.
I will try all the recs though, anything is worth a try in the efforts for more sleep.
Thanks again, if nothing else it helps to know others are awake too...........
A feed usually helped us if it was really early. However in those days if she woke after 5:30 then we were up for the day. Simple as that.
Nowadays she sleeps til at least 6 and usually later, and I've no idea what changed but as she got older she just slept longer. So perhaps the same will happen for your little one?
Well i have been trying the Sheyne Rowley things and limiting his morning sleep to 30mins and some of the time he sleeps alittle longer, 5.40 and two mornings of 5.50 but not really making that much difference. We have been doing it for two weeks now, i an going to give it one or week and look forward to the best.
I cracked it recently and told my little bean he wasn't getting out of bed until 7am. The first 3 days he woke up at 6 and babbled and thumped his feet on the mattress and roared a few times until 7, and then today he actually slept until 7- yay! Not sure if its a fluke, but I'm hoping not. I wouldn't let him get really upset, but, hey, he's fine to entertain himself in his cot for a bit while I sleep!
my little one goes down about 8 and is up at 8 most mornings if i dont get ehr up early for work.
we got into this habbit as i was coming home from afternoon shift and needed that extra hour.
so we tried keeping ehr up later and playinga nd getting ehr well worn out and found she slept in.
DD wakes at 4.45 like clock work, i tried changing her bed time, her day sleeps etc to see if it made a difference. In the end i just changed MY bed time instead!!
Good to know there are others. We are getting alittle extra sleep some mornings with the limited day sleeps, generally one in three mornings we get a 5.40. I have gone back to wrapping him (at 9months) to see if that helps and yesterday he did wake at 5 resettled with no help till 5.40. Sadly overnight we have all developed a sore throat so i think a cold is coming, he was up three or four times last night.
I am with you beckoes, i am in bed by 830 and asleep by 9 or i just dont get that bulk of sleep i need, my 5 year old is up at 6 too and is very wild with all the holiday excitment so its off to bed i go
sorry to hear your not well!! Ive just started to put DD to sleep unwrapped, in a light summer sleeping bag at night and have cut out one of her night wakes! but she still wont sleep unwrapped in the day! Took me ages to work out what it was she wanted but once you find what works for you im sure it will get easier. Happy new year!
