wakes herself by rolling whilst asleep

DD has been rolling for ages, but in the last week or so, has started to roll over at night, which wouldn't be a problem except it wakes her up and she is a pain to resettle then. I've tried rolled-up nappies to chock her in but don't seem to work. Any tips? Is it a developmental thing, and most importantly, will she grow out of it?! She did it 5 times the other night!

My DD does the same thing.... although she generally doesnt fully wake herself up and only occassionally cries for me to get her she will just go back to sleep on her belly. Of course i I find her I roll her back.

I know you can buy a wedge wrap thing for around their body. It has two bumps either side that sits against their body.... in the belly region with her arms out of it so they cant roll.

Sorry about the poor description but I know you can get them from Big W.

I have never believed in using wedges or a chock to stop them rolling - sorry. It is a natural progression and in my experience with my kids and friends' kids, they all all go through this. They need to learn how to roll.

At this time however, I put my DDs into sleeping bags. They couldn't get their legs and hips around to roll over.....for a little while anyway......and it gave me the peace of mind that they were sleeping soundly. I made sure that during the day I encourged tummy time and rolling though so that they learnt how to roll back onto their backs, and strengthen their necks so that if she did roll she could lift her head.

They eventually do roll in a bag, but it can ease you troubles settling in the short term. They learn to move in it quite well, in fact my 1yo walks in hers now, but when she was learning to roll, it just meant that she didn't wake herself up

I am a big rap for the sleeping bag (esp in the colder months) coz then I don't stress that they've kicked the covers off. I know that htey are always appropriately covered.

It is a developmental phase and she will grow out of it. You will probably find the same thing happens again when she learns to crawl, and then stand. It is part of learning that they practice their skills when they stir/wake. It does lead to tired parents but is all normal.

I kinda guessed that I would just have to put up with it! Its only been in the last 2 weeks, pretty much since she started making attempts at crawling so I'm hoping that once she gets her actions coordinated and crawls it will stop. I was just hoping that someone had a hot tip!

Tbh, the nappies have been in there since she was a newborn - mainly because her cloth-nappied bum was so big, it would make her roll over! They haven't stopped her moving anyway for a while because she's too strong. I did try bath towels but that didn't work. Someone recommended a velcro wrap thing, but i was wondering whether it would be better to let her grow out of rolling over. I was thinking that if she didn't learn now, we could still have the same issues in another 6 months or so. She's already in a sleeping bag, but it doesn't stop her going anywhere.

    Thanks anyway!

I put DD2 in the sleeping bag earlier than DD1, and she definitely learnt to move in it better and earlier.
Good luck with it. I hope she doesn't wake you up too often, or for much longer (she says as she runs to a crying baby).

I find it takes DS a month or so to adjust each time he goes through a developmental phase (rolling, crawling, standing, etc)
