    settling 8week old baby

Hi, how quickly does your newborn settle to sleep, some days i put DS 8weeks down, and it takes forever for him to fall asleep on his own, and then other days i need to feed him to sleep etc. on other occaions he will grunt an dmake noises fo rup to an hr before falling into sleep cycle 1, only to wake 40 mins later. i dont want to feed him to sleep all the time.. he is not in a routine yet, as i have a 2 yo to work around, would love to know if others who have 8week olds, what there settling is like, ta

James can take from 5mins to one hour. He generally doesn't feed to sleep, he might fall asleep but by the time I burp him and keep him upright for a bit he stirs quite a bit. During the day he will paly in his bouncer, on the floor or in his cot and will usually fall asleep by himself as Im racing around after Izzy, occasionally will grizzle and do a lttle cry, and then fall asleep. Sometimes I will have to wrap him and walk around for a few while until he drifts off. He feeds 2-4 hourly during the day and generally sleeps from 8-7 overnight.

At night, he has a bath(eery 3 days or so) then a feed, wrapped and then will fall asleep in either DH or my arms, once he is asleep, usually after about 15 mins on average we put him down. He will sometimes wake and we resettle by cuddling up to 2-3 times. I find that the nights he has a bath he will be out like a light! HtH! Takes a while to get into a real routine, I find that I just go off his cues right now- some days he sleeps all day and others he is awake all day, as long as he is happy Im not too fussed. From memory I started a real day routine with Izzy at around 4 mths. Good luck!

Olive is a happy baby and generally through the day her behaviour sounds similiar to your DS. Initially she was really good at self settling but has since decided that she either wants to be fed or rocked/shushed to sleep at other times. She will happily lie in her cot or bassinette for up to 45-1hr but rarely puts herself to sleep these days. I don't really mind at this stage but this couls get hard later on. She usually sleeps between 1-5hrs through the day. I have been trying to tranistion her into the cot during the day but she won't have a bar of it during the night. So as a result she's running out of room in the bassinette as she is nearly 6kgs. She usually sleeps for a 7-9hr stretch over night then anywhere from 2-5hrs the rest of the time. I have noticed that when I don't wrap her when I think it's too hot she won't go to sleep unless we're out and it's in the pram or in someones arms. Is your DS still wrapped when sleeping? Like Tan Olive loves bath nights and seems to settle much faster.
