Decided to have a bath tonight. Not something I do very often, infact this is the 2nd one whole pregnancy. I dont usually have the bath very hot or even that deep, but tonight I did both. It was quite hot but felt lovely so I didnt add any more cold. I was in there about 40 mins.
Now Im a bit concerned if that was something I shouldnt have done.
Anyone know about having hot baths in the last few weeks? Im near 38wks.
At this stage I think it is all about doing what ever makes you feel good and comfy. Your bub is safe inside you and I doubt a warm bath would do any harm. Besides at 38 weeks your considered full term. Have as many baths as you want too .
You aren't supposed to have hot baths or spa's, as it raises your body temp.
You're not sposed to get over heated. I think if your body temp goes over 39 & you can't get it down you are sposed to get checked out.
Not sure what it does though. Sorry.
If I was you I wouldn't worry. There are soooo many things your not sposed to do that people do. I'm sure one nice hot bath isn't going to change much.
It might only be in early pg you have to worry? I hopped in a spa at 13 weeks with DS. Nothing happened to him.
The hot baths thing is more of an issue in the first trimester - and it would have to be soooo hot it would raise your core temperature, which would have to be pretty hot. Apparently fevers and raised body temperature can have a negative impact on the formation of the baby. In late pregnancy, that's not going to be a problem.
What you do need to watch out for is that you don't end up making yourself faint when you get out!
I had so much pain at the end of my last pregnancy that the only way to get through was to have a hot soak in the bath early in the morning and then again before I went to bed. As long as it isn't scalding and you don't feel unwell when you get out, there's unlikely to be any issue.
Depends on what is "hot" - I read somewhere (?) that anything under 37.5 is ok. Concerns cos unlike us, we can cool down in a hot bath by sticking our arms out, our head is exposed - the heat has somewhere to go. Bubs doesn't have this opportunity to cool down.
I thoroughly enjoyed baths towards the end, but my kids always wanted in with me so ended up being no room!
I just wish I could have a hot bath. I can't get out once I get in as its only a small bath. I was told that its more concerning in the first trimester. Apparently your only likely to cause harm if your body temp is high for more than 12 hours or so. So you will probably be just fine.
Thanks everyone.
Baby has been moving well, so I guess all is fine. I just worried about him over heating or triggering early labour - though I guess Im at the stage now that its not early anymore - he is welcome to come! Just didnt want to put him under stress.
The bath was deep, but over all its a shallow bath, so probably not too deep and easy enough for me to get out.
It felt really nice. That and a few foot rubs is wonderful at this stage
your body will tell you if there is something wrong, the main issue is over heating...i had hot baths at the end of my first pg...and just put my belly out if i felt it getting to warm...
only once did i feel unwell after so was prob a bit of over heating but he was born perfectly happy n healthy....if you feel fine and bubs is moving then i wouldnt worry
