DD has had a cold for 2 weeks now and i found that burning a little Eucalyptus Oil in a burner helps with her nose. She is 8.5 weeks old. I was wondering, is it ok to put a couple of drops under her head where she sleeps to help while she is sleeping or is it too strong for such a young bub???
oooh - cant quite remember from DS but I think it is considered too strong. Best to keep to infuser I think.
Think about vicks and other rubs, they usually have doses that are milder for little ones.
Their lungs are really too weak even for Vicks at that age hun, you are better off just using a plain vaporiser with nothing in it until she is older. I didn't use Vicks on Iz til she was 12 mths and even then would only put it on her feet with socks over the top.
Eucalyptus oil is highly toxic, I personally would not use it anywhere where there's even the remotest chance that it could be ingested or absorbed by the skin, as it may, at the very least, be an irritant, and at worse, have a toxic effect.
If you use the Baby Balsalm you can rub it on the rail of the cot- and not on her skin, that way it's not too close but even with that I would be hesitant to use it too close. A lady at the chemist told me that when Izzy was small and sick - she basically told me she was going to lose a sale but that she felt her health was more important than me buying anything! I ended up just using the vaporiser with just water in it and raising the end of her cot a bit. Hope shes better soon hun.
