Medicated Nasal Spray

What about medicated nasal sprays i.e Dimetapp..... it says it contains Oxymotozoline and Hydrochloride.

What category does that fall in?

I am just wondering eventhough I know I should be using saline sprays which do not help at all .... and I am still kept awake night after night not sleeping ......

Could you please help.

I really wish there was a book or a site on the internet which would list all the different categories of medicines which are safe to take etc.... it makes it really hard having to ring up the number and having to ask each individual question. Well that is my personal opinion anyways,

You need to call the number and say to them - "I have hayfever, what are the safest treatments and why" rather than asking about each drug in turn. You'll get a list of things that you can try.

Ask a pharmacist. Or google the medication - some of them you'll find the information online somewhere.

A pharmacist and my ob told me that rhinocorte was fine to take when pregnant, as it's a category A drug in the nasal-spray form. It worked to alleviate my hayfever just fine.

Personally I wonder how many people who wouldn't let even a category A drug into their body while pregnant will happily drink different herbal teas and suchlike, without even wondering whether the effects of those concentrated things have been well studied in pregnant women. Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it is not harmful.

I think those nasal spray are category B, and safe use during pregnancy hasn't been established.

I know I looked it up on Mims one night when I was pregnant with Eva and couldn't breathe...
