If you had spoken to me 2 weeks ago I would have told you that Mackenzie is a bad sleeper, not weaning with any success and was getting quite tiresome and cranky. Now it's all changed!!!
The past 6 nights she has slept from 7- 7.30 until 7.45 am with no feeds! She wakes about once, maybe twice and all it takes now is for us to go in and lay her down and say "it's sleep time" and she's fine. She's having 2 day-sleeps still and eating 3 meals (though one is usually a nibble!). I am only feeding her 4 times a day now and think that I can cut down to three soonish.
So just wanted to say how happy I am that we have a sleeping, HAPPY girl who has a really good pattern happening. There is hope!
Big difference has been consistency. I have never been one for a strict routine beacuse I like being able to go where I want when I want but the past week I ahev made a huge effort to put her down at regular times. It just means planning my shopping or visiting trips around it. Also the first night I decided to be tough and not feed her I had to get up to her about 6 times and the first time she cried for 40 mins - it was aawful but the next few times it was only for about 2 mins and now she cries out but falls back alseep about 1 minute later. I don't stay in the room once I have lay her down and reassured her cause that makes it worse.
She wakes aournd 8ish.
Her next sleep is about 10.30
Next one at 2.30
Dinner at 5 - I used to feed her at 6 and it was too late.
Bed at 7 - NO MATTER HOW TIRED SHE LOOKS!!!
It's working really well and the other day when we went to the races she missed her arvo sleep and didn't mind.
Fantastic that you have found something that works! Big the crying part must've been hard (been there!) but you got results so quickly it was obviously right for you! xxx
I think that's it Marydean - there is no way I would have let her to cry time after time, night after night. Because it worked so quickly I was glad we made the sacrifice but I can see how this doesn't work for everyone. I just love how quickly she can settle into a routine and cope with the change!
