    Question Rice cookers...?

Shel has rice OCD where she feels the need to sit by the saucepan so the rice doesn't stick to the bottom. LOL een when I cook the rice, if I walk away she'll get all antsy, saying "you're not stirring it... what about the RICE! The rice is sticking, its sticking, its STICKING" (ok, maybe not like that but anyway LOL).

Explain to me the rice cookers? Do you just put the rice in and wait until its cooked? Do you need to stir? Whats the downside to them? What are good brands?

Leasha, rice cookers steam the rice. There is no need to stir and IMO the rice is nicer. It's the only way I cook rice. I think the brands are much of a muchness, although you can get some with a steamer basket so you can steam vegies while you cook the rice and that's a good idea. The one thing I would watch, is that many of them have a minimum cook amount of 2 cups of rice, which is too much for us. So I would try and get one where you can cook less.

Our rice cooker is the best appliance we have ever bought!!
You just pop the rice in (2 cups to 3 cups of water) and leave it.
Ours is only a sunbeam and is AMAZING. It switches over to warm after it's cooked so you can leave it longer and it just stays warm for you.
    I love it!!

If you cook too much, you can wrap it up in glad wrap and put it in the freezer. When you need it, just microwave and it comes out fluffy again.

    i love our rice cooker

we use our rice cooker all the time - love love love it! we tend to cook more than we need, as i've found for things like fried rice, letting it go cold over night makes for so much tastier rice - it seems to seperate better and soak up flavour even better...

    no gluggy rice here! yay!

I agree my favourite appliance! That and my electric wok so when i'm cooking a stir-fry I don't have to go anywhere near the oven lol!

Ours is sunbeam too - and the rice will stay warm for up to 5 hours! Get it, get it, get it!!!!

Another Sunbeam rice cooker household here. It's SO good, you put it on and walk away, and it keeps it warm until you're ready to eat it, and the best thing - it's perfect every time!

Mmm, I think there'll be rice for dinner tonight

Just wanted to add- get one with a steamer tray for when Jazz starts solids. The steamer on ours get used more than the actual rice cooker.

I have a sunbeam one. It is one cup of rice, to one cup of water, put it in, turn it on, put the lid on and walk away. When it's ready the light flicks off then you just scoop it out and serve.

The rice is much nicer, and it's nice not worrying about it sticking to the pan
